Well this forum is brand new to me & I obviously don't know anyone on here, but let me tell you what I gather from the responses to my original post. It seems like many of you are bitter (and even jealous?) of A-team's success. My husband and I have spoken to many husband/wife teams that have shared similar stories as A-team has. Here's what I don't understand.........those of you that are bad-mouthing expediting and only pointing out the negative parts.........WHY ARE YOU STILL IN IT?

Since this is a forum section for the newcomers, most agree that a accurate realistic description of the business is what is requested. That includes both positive and negative information. Especially when many are risking their personal assets.
It is clearly a disservice for those to enter and not see all the facts.

As with any business there are many risks, and with trucking in general, there is a large turnover. That doesn't happen by accident.
The largest percentage of issues are misinformed people about how the industry works.
Can you make a decent living ect in trucking? Absolutely. But the ones that have endured the test of time are the ones that have entered with very realistic expectations.

>I don't deny there are some who do make a good living at it
>but there are also those that have their trucks repo'ed .
>I'd guess the majority of repo's belonged to newbies trying
>to drive solo though .

I don't disagree with you there, but I've talked to a couple who are thinking of changing companies. They told me their acceptance rating was 40%!!! Hate to say it, but they're destined to failure with any company if they're that picky about loads.

With all due respect, Dave, that's up to the newbie to decide which part is applicable to them. Although I didn't read A-team's original post, and know he's a bit excited at his success, is that reason to edit it?

We know A-team gave advice to one individual that resulted in him buying a new truck. There were countless others who said to go with an o/o instead. I probably would've listened to A-team too if I had the money. But in the end, if I failed, could I really blame his advice? No. I would've listened to what I wanted to hear. And when you look at it now, that individual is having the time of his life because he listened to A-team.

Whether you like his advice or not, it gives a unique aspect to expediting, when in fact, this is a pretty bleak profession to begin with. I hear so many horror stories, not to mention my own, that would make one wonder why they would want to be a part of it all. It's the freedom! First and formost, it's the idea of getting out there and being your own boss. And A-team is giving the perfect example of what's actually right about the industry... even if he doesn't tell the bad along with the good. That's everyone else's job if they oppose his view... to contradict it. I hate to see it deleted because someone disagrees. Deletes are for shouting matches... not for different points of view.

Well, that's why I posted the topic to begin with.......to hear both positive and negative stories that were similar to OUR situation. But I wanted the answers I received to be tailored to OUR situation.

Again....I am an accountant and therefore can certainly handle the business end of it. We are financially stable and have no debts besides our house and therefore can certainly handle the truck payments. My husband has been in the trucking industry his entire life as his dad AND mom have trucking companies. He now has his own company and therefore can certainly handle the trucking lifestyle.

The reason for my question was to try to find other examples of professionals that left an office job for expediting and to find out what I should expect. I DO want to hear about both positive and negative experiences.

I think everyone agrees. The post was not deleted but was edited. Just for the reason that you stated, it was thought that this was where it was headed (a shouting match). It was this same post that caused a problem a month ago with A Team and another poster.
Different points of view are more than welcomed. Just keep it civil
He did provide a much better version in his updated post that wouldn't "fan the flames"
