Welcome to the USSA....United Socialists States of Amerika....when the obama-clinton socialist party finishes with us we'll have to "show me your papers" to take a drive to church!!
I live in Texas now, but spent most of my life in SC/GA.. Last summer I was working in SC and deciced to take a trip to Dallas,TX to the big truck show there and then go home for a few days.
I'm cruising along in southwest GA on I-85,near exit 28. I'm in the right lane, running about zone limit in my 2006 Nissan Sentra and notice a county unit in the opposite direction. There's a semi just ahead of me, and the county unit flashes his blue light a couple of pulses, then brake lights come on. I'm thinking to myself,Mr. Trucker is gonna have a bad afternoon. Well, I decide to take the exit to go to the Love's(or is it a Pilot?) to get some gas. To my surprise, the county unit followed me up the offramp. As I put on my signal to turn into the truckstop,he put on the blue lights. I stopped in the parking lot. The officer approached and asked if there was a problem with my tag. I said no, it's fine, inspection is good, taxes paid etc. ,why do you ask. He replies "your tag won't run". He asked for license(no request for registration and proof of insurance!) and goes to his unit. A few minutes later he says the Texas system must be down,so have a nice day, sir.
I didn't think much about it until this March(the 26th) I had been in SC for a business meeting and was driving back to Texas. Again, in my Nissan Sentra, in GA,on I-85 approaching exit 28. I saw a county unit with a traffic stop on the right side and he was doing the full vehicle search, driver's stuff all over the side of the road. As I go over the hill I see another county unit parked in the median. I remembered the stop from last year, so I watch this guy. I'm a 57 yr. old white male who's never had a ticket. Not one in 40 years of driving. I'm running zone limit with all traffic passing me,so I slowed down to 68 to see if that would trigger a "strike". Yep, it sure did. Barney just couldn't take the pressure!! LOL!! That Texas tag probably had something to do with it. I pulled over at the off-ramp wide area, officer approached, asked how's my day going? I replied personally it's fine but as a driver I'm curious why you stopped me. He replied "sir, your tag won't run!!) That's right, two stops in six months, same state, same county, same exit, same excuse! I said I can't control the tag computers, but what I want to know is why did you run my tag? I broke no law. Well of course that challenged his authority so he replied "I don't have to explain the law to you" and asked for my license. Again,no request for registration or proof of insurance. After a lengthy wait, his partner arrived and they asked to search my vehicle. I said yes,"cause I didn't want to have to wait on the warrant and dogs to arrive. After about 20 mins. they decided I could go.
Moral of the story is I was profiled...A grey haired old white guy in a little Sentra with Texas tags running below zone limit!! Twice in the same county with the same line about my tag not running... I'm pretty sure my tag is good because it clears the Border Patrol checkpoints every time I leave the Rio Grande Valley northbound!!
Maybe they had stopped so many minorities that day they needed a non-minority stop on the record to avoid a lawsuit for over-abusing minorities, I don't know. I do realize however, they could have easily ruined my life simply by "finding" a $5 bag of drugs they took off the previous stop. I would have been helpless against that. If stopped again,I'm gonna decline the search, insist on a warrant, dogs, and full audio-visual recording of the event. It's getting so it ain't safe to be in Amerika any more, comrads!!!
