Any of the DEF has a short shelf life, hence never buy bulk amounts.

another government idea to pilfer our pockets
Well, if one has to reduce NOx, DEF/SCR is the cheapest way to do it, believe it or not.
Ammonia gas works better than DEF, but ammonia gas is extremely hazardous. It was even used as a chemical weapon. A bottle of ammonia is certainly not the kind of thing you'd want on a vehicle. It'll kill people that have been in an accident.

DEF/SCR isn't going away, so the choice is to keep an older vehicle running forever, or learning to deal with it. Manufacturers don't want their vehicles to have a reputation for being unreliable :censoredsign:boxes, so there is constant R&D being devoted to improving these systems.

Keep DEF cool and out of direct sunlight and the shelf-life improves dramatically. A tote full of DEF sitting outside in Arizona will have measurably deteriorated in a week.
