Ace E-Manifest

Hello there, Great forum, I am a biz owner (Courier Co.)located in Ontario, Canada. I use my vehicles; ( Honda Civic Sadan 2004 and Honda Odyssey 2000) to delivery small items that normally clear customs under Section 16C and 321 to Michigan and sometimes Buffalo Ny. My question is: Seeing
they are now phasing in the new Ace e-manifest system at bording crossing all over the US a e-manifest will soon be required to clear customs in my area (Buffalo, Detroit and Sarnia) , so my question is: seeing that my vichicle types are both under 10 000 lbs gross weight (please correct me if I'm wrong) Do I need a US Dot # to file the e-manifest and be ok to cross the border and if I don't need a dot# what do I put in the manditory field asking for a US dot # in order to satisfy US Customs. I think your best bet would be to ask the U.S. Customs folks at Buffalo, Sarnia and Detroit. They will probably give you as many different answers as the folks on this site will give you.

Lately, there have been threads on here that have differing opinions as to the need for <10,001 vehicles to have DOT numbers. There are also differing experiences noted during border crossings from one port of entry to the next and even between customs officers at the same border crossing point.
