"Navigators" is going clear over my head and making me feel extra stoopid. What is Navigators?
Why are people not signing up? Off the top of my head:
1. It's a nationwide monumental newsworthy CF and anyone that's dumb enough to sign up right now might find themselves interviewed and portrayed on the evening news in a not so flattering way.
2. It's a nationwide monumental CF and it's probably better to wait until things are in a settled state lest you waste time filling out forms and then have to do it again.
3. Akin to #2 but let someone else be the guinea pig, I've got better things to do.
4. If the penalty for the first year is only like $50 or $100 and they can't disqualify you for pre-existing conditions then isn't the bargain-path to wait until year 2 to sign up? (of course this assumes you don't find yourself in the emergency ward sometime during 2014 with a slip and fall accident)
Navigators are the ones hired by the government to help people apply. The downside is you are giving your personal information to someone who might not be screened or qualified.
The secretary of health already said in last weeks hearing that you could be giving your information to a previous convicted criminal since no one checks. Some states are setting up guidelines but the program is a disaster. The only ones signing up are the ones that get it for free.
Don't forget that they are also there to tell people to lie to get more subsidies and lower premiums.

Wasn't 'verification' the one condition that Republicans managed to get attached to the ACA with their shutdown tactics?
Dave: would appreciate a link to that local film, please. If I ever sign up, I might need some good advice on getting the best plan for less money, lol.
The title is just one of the problems as it implies it is an article on regular insurance companies when it is not.
Many of the 'regular insurance companies' [Aetna, State Farm, BCC] were offering the product, so how are they any better than the company that created it?
There was a single company that misbehaved and was rightfully shutdown, but you can't take the actions of one company that didn't follow the rules and try to pretend it is the entire industry.
You can when much of the industry is fronting for the misbehaving company by selling it's 'mini' plans right alongside the actual health insurance people expected to get, without making the difference clear.
Forbes magazine has a lot of liberal bias articles because they have liberal authors. It also has a lot of conservative bias articles for the same reason.
IOW, that "reputation for liberal articles" you mentioned is a wee bit one sided, lol.

No...there is no federal verification on navigators.
I was referring to verification of the applicants [for insurance subsidies], not the navigators. Telling them to lie on the insurance app is pretty stupid, because verification will catch it.
Some states are doing background checks but not all. The republicans are introducing a bill to shut them down.
Background checks should have been a requirement to begin with - especially when people have to sign up for the program [filling out the app] in order to know what their cost will be. Sometimes, the government does really asinine stuff, and someone points it out, and then they fix it. We hope.
Ok, the whole ACA is asinine. Insurance isn't going to lower health costs, which are the real problem. Eventually, they will have to address that.
I couldn't find that specific link from yesterday but this one explains among several others.
I did find humor in the fact that it's the Repubs who are demanding regulation, lol.

So Obama is letting people keep their current policies for another year. Put me in the office pool (you guys do have an office pool don't ya? ) for this being a day that President Obama looks back on and regrets.

She doesn't blame Obama, though.
