Mixerman is correct, you will need to do a background check. The check is around 100.00 and it could take up to a month, but got mine in 2 weeks.Keep that paper bcos you will need to show it several times.also you will need a medcard for your driving test. The road test for haz-mat is also different,so make sure you study for it.
Good luck

Ah... nope, you can take the test without the background check. The offices may not let you because it may be an office policy but it isn't a SoS policy.

I know someone here who I helped, take the test without any background check and their license is pending because they are on a learners permit. The background check has to be completed before they issue the license or before they add the endorsement.

What roadtest with hazmat?

There isn't any and if the tester does test you on Hazmat, report them.

Hazmat is the same as doubles and tank endorsement, no "skills" test is needed only a knowledge test.

The tester informed me that I had to act like I had a haz-mat load.
stopping at rail crossings, follow bridge\tunnel signs etc.The instructor told me,if I didnt do so I would fail my drivers test.
I also Had to tell him why I was stopping and how many feet etc from the rail crossing

Again they are not supposed to go beyond the guidelines set by the state in order for them to test. The endorsement does not require a skills tests and he can't 'flunk' you if you got a hazmat question wrong.

Practice your pretrip, especially with tire wear oh and don't forget to look at every bridge and note what their height is.

Good luck

Actually, as of December 2008, when I got my class C in the state of MI with a hazmat endorsement, you are to be tested with hazmat on your road test, because they have to sign off on it on the certificate that you take back to the SOS. They will also test you during the road test and have you "pretend" you are doing a hazmat load, and follow the rules of it, as stopping at railroad tracks with 4 ways on and such. You are not issued anything except for the permit, until the background check comes back. I know this because it took so long, due to the fact of having such small fingerprints they were hard to read, and had to do a name background check instead. And you will have to check the bridges, they usually ask you after you go under them what the clearance had been
