A reminder to all who post on the forum

Please take a moment to think about your posts and to review them before posting. This is meant to be a family forum open to any and all members of expediting families. As such the language used in posts is to be kept at a family level. Any future posts with d&sg#is*d cursing will be immediately deleted.

ALL CAPS ARE CONSIDERED THE SAME AS SHOUTING AND SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR AN ENTIRE POST. Please turn off the caps lock and use appropriate capitalization.

Lastly, please take the time to put your thoughts into paragraphs. Your message will come across much clearer. People will also be more likely to read all of what you have to say. Posts that are one incredibly long paragraph do not always get read all the way through and part of what you have to say is missed.

Hey, Leo,

I would really appreciate you deleting your sig line regarding the Constitution if you are going to make unilateral decisions in this manner. Actions such as this are exactly what the framers of the Constitution were wary of!

I haven't seen anything posted in the forums that I would hide from my young (early teens and pre-teen) nieces. So what's got your shorts in such a bunch??

If anything, I believe that the there should be a spell-check added to the forum as some of the attempts at English border on obscene!

If cryptology is outlawed, only outlaws will *^@+&#!
Question authority!

Just my $.02

Bad language can be taken care of, but paragraphs sometimes is subject to beeing pc litherate.

It takes myself ages to write up a answer for example, and I might forget to hit the enter key, so please be forgiving for those non-computer-wizzards! We are only human, and try real hard!

Years ago when this forum first took off we the people encouraged everyone to post no matter how bad their spelling or grammar was. I haven't seen any vulgar language. The forum program has a language blocker in it. I know because I set it up with LM when I was an administrator. It blocks any words, or changes then to ########. I guess we THE PEOPLE must be PC literate and be able to read and write the way some mods feel what or what not is appropriate.

The question I have to the other mods is when did the tone and back bone of EO change, or is this guy running off at the gums? What's going on here Dreamer, Rich, Elmo??? Must the posters now take a course in grammar before posting on EO?

We are and always will be TRUCK DRIVERS! Ya it's nice to be nice but it is also nice to be comfortable and be able to write 1 line phrases if that is all a person can or knows.

Then there is Frank F, another member from day 1 who has been writing in caps just about every post, now this Mod is going to tell the members how to write a post. This forum is for expediters not kids. Words get cut out of respect for the persons who don't like it not their kids.

I do hope this thread is an over site and this mod retracts his statement.

BTW Elmo, Thanks for the kind words in the email.

The important part of this is keeping the posts at a family level. The software system is good but only works so far. It's great if I type the word fork and it knows to take away fork but if I type f*rk, fo*k etc. it's going to show up just as I typed it. Posts are being made that way to get around the software language system. That is not family level. There's nothing that can't be adequately expressed with other vocabulary.

IF YOU WANT TO YELL THROUGH YOUR ENTIRE POST GO AHEAD. I MENTIONED TURNING OFF ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT'S CONSIDERED RUDE TO USE ALL CAPS.

I mentioned dividing longer posts into paragraphs because I know some users do not read very long posts that all run together. I presumed if you went to the trouble to share your thoughts you wanted them read. I posted that to help and just as with all caps whatever you want is fine.

RE: remember if

Just remember that if you say something about the carriers that would upset them etc., that your post will be deleted, then no one will step and and say they did it.Funning how a post can disappear.

RE: remember if

OK guys, let's not get ridiculous here. All Leo did was post a reminder of posting ettiquette, so why did it have to get turned into a discussion like this?

He wasn't making any demands, he was offering suggestions to keep a professional, and readable forum, and what's wrong with that?

It was a reminder, not something to argue about, Chill a little!

kg,

Just for info, in online communications, ie email, chatrooms, messenger, forums, etc... typing in all caps is done to 'yell' at someone, therefore is considered rude.

Once again, LDB was reminding folks of ettiquette, not saying you can never do it...

If you want us to think you're yelling, go right ahead. :+

They say the third time is the charm so here goes for the third time.

The most important part of my message is to remember this is meant to be a family forum. There are members who do not want even masked vulgarities on the forum so they shouldn't find them here. They are not necessary to make valid, intelligent and lucid points. This is the only point I will actively moderate.

ALL CAPS were mentioned because, again, it is considered shouting and rude in online forums to present an entire post in all caps. I do not care what you do. I mentioned it in an attempt to be helpful to those who might not know this.

Paragraphs were mentioned because, again, good posts are being passed over because they are so long they are difficult to read and are being skipped over by some users. I do not care what you do. I mentioned it in an attempt to be helpful so those who go to the trouble to post don't have part or all of their message passed over.

So there you have it. Out of respect for other users do not use profanity or masked profanity. Otherwise do whatever you think best. For those who are upset or offended by an honest attempt to provide helpful suggestions mea culpa.

My personal pet peeve here is lack of punctuation. At least use a period once in a while. As far as the masked profanity, I don't think it's over the top at all. It seems to be, for the most part, just used when someone really wants to express some extra emotion. Kids can turn on the T.V. and hear worse than what is going on here. How many kids would really find this interesting enough to hang around very long anyway?

That's generally true however I would hope that anyone entering someone's house as a guest would refrain from profanities, even masked ones, if they knew that wasn't a part of that households lifestyle. Posting on this forum is no less entering other's homes than walking in their door. Extra emphasis can be obtained for a point through CAPITALIZING A PHRASE, bold font, italics or other means. Since it is offensive to a few we'll keep it out of here and be none the worse for eliminating it.

Leo in your example of the word fork,I will agree that it is probably not a good way to say it. but if I were to say that that he was a #$%&$$#@ then I don't think it should offend anyone. It is even used in the Sunday comics.
