OH! SO thats why it's getting harder to find Type2 diesel... that ultra low is cruddy in our tanks. We get horrible mileage with it 8 or 9 measley mpg. And why is it going the way of the California farmer you ask>??? WEll because our great President just realized it's easier for the REAL American to suck up all his Governments mistakes. You know the minnow survivies but the farmers don't, we can just buy our food from China, why not we buy everything from there now... Don't forget the way it used to be... Remember this when mid term elections come around.

Watched a special yesterday..there has been an unusual swing of late...young American couples buying into farmland and getting into the business....the figures I think was around 5% increase in farming in the US...this is a good thing...:D

It IS a VERY good thing. I hope that they farm with more respect for the land than the "Big Farming" companies do. Ever hear of a "cover crop"? It really sucks to see tons of topsoil blowing or washing away all winter.

They featured 3 young families in TN, Ark. and Arizona...just small plots to start 1,000 acres or so...but none the less it is land that was non producing, that they are learning and modernizing...land management they call it now...

I kinda like so called "non-producing" land. It "rests" the soil. I do hope they are learning to NOT make the mistakes of years past. They need to look at Remington Farms on the Eastern Shore of MD. They have a demonstration farm that farms BOTH for crops AND wildlife habitat AND makes a GOOD profit at the same time. They use LESS pesticides and fertilizers than most farms due to their use of PROPER farming methods. It is a really cool place to visit. They lose far less topsoil than most farm due to the use of "cover crops" in winter.

Crop rotation and "cover crops" go a LONG way. Look at "chick peas" for a cover crop every other year. They "FIX" nitrogen in the soil greatly cutting down on the use of chemical fertilizers and help stop wind and water erosion. They also help to keep nitrogen "run off" OUT of our waterways which increases water quality and improves wildlife habitat. Rotate that out with winter wheat or a similar "grass" crop every other winter. There is a great LONG TERM benifit to those who practice this type of farming.
