When reading posts written by veteran expediters who are building straight trucks, it seems that all are spec'd at 40' OAL. Looking in my motor carrier atlas, the length of straight trucks varies by state. The legal length of a straight in illinois is 42'. So my question is; if I were to build a 42' straight and base plate it in Illinois, would I be in violation of length restrictions passing thru a state with a shorter length restriction? Some states have legal S/T lengths of 45'. Since there is no standardized length between states, how could you be cited for overlength in one state if your legal in your base plated state? Doesn't receprosity apply?
