The poll I saw was worded: "which candidate would you TRUST to handle the economy"
"trust" may be the key word.
Unfortunately his "solid" history is becoming a "shaky" history and it has become difficult to trust his braggadocios claims.
He has bragged that he gave away all of his inheritance; therefore, he is a self made man.
Ann stated that they lived off of the inheritance for years.
Even if he had not given it away, so what? His dad built the pile of money by working hard, to EARN it. The family, and all Americans, should be proud of this success- not ashamed of it.
He stated that he "saved" the Olympics.
Olympic officials say that claim is an exaggeration.
$1 billion was already in place and the Bush made sure the Gov't. kicked in another 1.5 billion.
To think that our country would ever let the Olympics fail is naive.
Kind of like the banks? Chrysler? GM? $1.5 billion sounds pretty darn cheap, by comparison!!!
He brags about balancing the budget in Massachusetts.
He balanced the STATE budget by screwing over the CITIES and TOWNS.
If you are going to strengthen your household finances you NEED to quit buying for your friends and neighbors.
If our federal government would quit the waste spending to the states, cities, counties, solar panel building plants- totally eliminate ALL foreign spending- we could soon get the federal budget in order!
"Romney largely balanced the budget by cutting state aid to cities and towns, many of which responded by raising property taxes. In his first two years in office, Romney presided over a 15 percent cut in spending on unrestricted aid to cities and towns; he also cut more than 4 percent of funding for local schools."
Result was a net increase in taxes.
See above response. Also, if the cities, etc., had to tighten their belts, good! Most municipalities have a ton of wasteful spending in their budgets. They could NOT decrease school spending if the would end the wasteful spending.
In part why his disapproval rating went from 33% to 65%.
He has bragged about "turning companies around" while at Bain.
He used the easiest method of increasing profits.
Reduce the largest variable expense by reducing the workforce.
As LOS (I think it was his post) said in one of his posts, people build businesses to make money- jobs are simply a side product.
If YOU owned a business, would you keep un-needed workers, while losing money? Or would you thin the herd, and stay profitable?
If a business has to get rid of some workers to save the jobs of MANY other workers, sounds like a no brainer to me!
He has managed to confuse many of the American people who may feel it is easier to TRUST a known entity *(even a bad one) than to cross your fingers on the hard to trust bragging rich loose cannon guy.
