Be safe out there!
A major spring storm system continues to track northeast toward the western Great Lakes, while pushing a cold front east across the Eastern States.
This storm system has brought numerous reports of Blizzard conditions over parts of South Dakota and Minnesota, with up to a foot of snow in parts of Nebraska and Colorado.
Heavy snow will fall from the eastern Dakotas, across central and northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan through today. Accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with locally over a foot, will be likely.
This heavy snow will combine with winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts over 50 mph at times. This will create blizzard conditions in some areas, with considerable blowing a drifting of snow in near zero visibility.
Along the associated cold front with this storm system showers and thunderstorms will likely impact areas from the Upper Ohio Valley, through the Tennessee valley, into the Deep South.
A few isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible today through this region, with the primary risk being damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain.
An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially over the Upper Ohio Valley, closer to the stronger upper-level winds.
