A fuel hike when Ike strikes?

I don't usually pass along the "sky is falling!" stuff, but this one seems credible, given the source: the owner of a gas station. He says he got a call from Exxon tonight, warning him that the price of fuel may jump by $1.00/gal tomorrow, given the probable hit to Houston's refineries. I'm filling up, tonight, myself.
Don't figure the fuel will get wasted, if it's false, but I'd feel pretty stupid if I didn't get fuel tonight, and it were true.
Hope everyone stays out of Ike's path.

If it comes in at a four, I think you will see a hike of some sort because that is strong enough to effect refineries and some of the platforms.

I just read an article that wholesale gas went up 30% to-day or about $1.00 a gallon....now they did say gas....I'll assume diesels included.

Ontario rack prices as of midnight tonight

Gas will go up up 12.9 cents a liter around 49 c/gal

Diesel up 1.2 cents a liter.

EIA data showed a greater draw on gas than expected last week and diesel was near average.

Watch the price for Heating oil on the NYMEX, as it goes so does diesel. (NYMEX plus 60 cents gives you a rough idea of the street price of diesel)

Price goughing, no other reason for the hike. The cost of fuel should never rise because of the weather, this is a recent excuse by the gas station to make more money, it's fuel that is already in the station tanks.

I fueled in Bryn TX 3 days ago, it was 4.19per. I fueled today at the same place, same price. The first signs of "IKE" are apon us. First rain hit about 20 minutes ago. We will move into the shelter latter this afternoon. Layoutshooter

Hey Piper I heard the reports of fuel going up in Ont by 12 cents/lt at midnite last nite so I fuelled both trucks. Surprise today at dixie and the 401 diesel dropped 1 cent /litre. So diesel was 118.9/L and gasoline 135.0/L. Thats 16 plus cents per litre or 60 cents a US gal.

I do expect diesel to rise over the weekend and next week as the results of the storm become more evidient and the time delay for return to production is calculated.

At least diesel is lower than gas which is nice after so long of the other way.

Well

God was with Texas No big surage or anything of the devastation that was in LA all agree here.

Yes a lot of trees down and a shingles off and that but for the most part a few busted windows sure dont make for the Price gouging that the companies have done.

Well there will be a lot of freight going now and alot of trucks being employed so best bout being busy. So to the the Greatest company on Earth I have My phone on me and Im
heading to put my shutters back on my house if you gotten a load for me Give the Ice man a call.

For the Price gougers look out the Next President said hes taking names and those companies will be Punished...

Food for thought

The Pilot in Knoxville raised it's price from $3.66 to $5.09 between Friday & Saturday - I hope they make an example of them. Except I don't ever remember reading anything about gouging being punished, just apparently empty promises to do so.
Either way, all Pilot is getting from me from now on, is a letter explaining why I am a former customer.

They did say the plants were shut down and probably would not be running for about 9 days. My Dad and brother in law work at the Shell refinery in Deer Park, so I was going to ask them about it, but still can't get in touch with anyone.

One comment from an AP News story just cracks me up:

"The oil industry was trying to find out how severe damage was to at least 10 production platforms destroyed by the storm."

Uhm, if the platforms were destroyed, one would think the oil industry would be smart enough to figure out that the damage is pretty severe.

Incidentally, Katrina destroyed 44 platforms. Damage was pretty severe to those, too.

I know when Katrina hit the Attorney General of Arkansas put pretty stiff penaltys on the gougers. Of course this is the same guy that recently told the payday loan people they were operating illegally. He threatened to shut them all down if they didn't get their act together. Also alot of that debt was forgiven. Why I don't know. I don't remember what was illegal about what they were doing.
