The left goes apoplectic at the thought of severe consequences. Pick a drug, any drug, drug Q. How much of drug Q is a lethal dose? Ok, possession of X quantity of drug Q is a capital offense. No exceptions. So those selling drugs have no more than one dose or they risk execution. At the very least it slows them down. And now our usual friends can come along and demonstrate their apoplexy.

What needs to happen is a decisive action by the US to put these cartels out of business, the same way we did with Isis. Tell the Mexican government we're coming and to stay out of the way. Freeze cartel assets. Round up their leadership and send them to Gitmo. And start inspecting the trucks at the border again.

Sounds drastic? As things stand right now, they're killing 300 Americans per day and all we're doing is trying to catch the delivery boys instead of eliminating the sources of the problem.

There is only one way to put the cartels out of business, but the American people probably dont have the stomach for it. Flood the county with free drugs, why pay for something you can get for free? Yes, overdoses will go up but when the money stops flowing to the cartels, they will have no way to sustain themselves.

I agree that those penalties would be the right thing to do, but where would we put all of them? We already have one of the highest prison populations in the world and there are so many more that need to be locked up. Its just not realistic.

By the way, remember Trump pardoned a drug kingpin on his way out.

Finally, something I can accept.

We need to be serious about the problem and not play politics.

Where will the "free" drugs come from? I've never seen anything "free" that didn't cost someone.

We'd tell William Wayne Justice just where to go, up the prisons to 100% again, and much more rapidly get around to the executions thereby freeing space for others. And we'll follow Sheriff Joe's good example of how to handle added numbers of prisoners. In (not too much) time far fewer people will choose to be criminals and avail themselves of the accommodations.

Well for one, all the drugs that we confiscate we just give away, second, we start producing the drugs, I bet certain pharmaceutical companies would be good with producing product for the government, especially if we invoke the defense production act. Hell of a lot cheaper than building prisons and dropping million dollar bombs on the cartels.

Its going to cost either way, but which way will cost the taxpayers less is the question .

I would like to think that is the case but the law breakers have too many "rights" that victims do not have.

Are you suggesting the US govt hand out free fentanyl and fentanyl-laced counterfeits? We're not talking about pot or free syringes, this stuff is serious poison and the cartels - in league with the Chinese - are killing a lot of innocent Americans with it.

BTW, money is the least of our concerns with this problem.
