60 or 40

a friend and i are looking to get into the industery and have been looking at the classifieds. Most that we've seen are offering 60/40, we pay the fuel but i've talked to a neighbor who drives for an owner and i'm told that some owners will give you a choice.
60 you pay the fuel.
40 they pay the fuel.
Is there an owner that can highlight on this and if it's true which would be better.
I'm just trying to get the numbers worked out before jumping in. Oh and we're looking for a straight owner if that makes a difference.

Thanks

These days of high fuel costs, I suspect most owners would not take a chance with an unknown driver and pay the fuel bill. The owner won't know how long you'll idle, how often you'll go home on his fuel or how far you'll deadhead for personal reasons, and worst case, whether or not you'll sell his fuel as we see all too often.

Take the 60%, or better if you can get it, and conserve when you can.

DO you mean straight owner or straight truck owner?

Terry is correct. Also depending on the company, if they pay a decent FSC, it is more profitable to the driver to take a 60/40 split. That is assuming they aren't selling fuel or deadheading all over the place.

We run for an owner and we get 40% and they pay for the fuel but they keep the fuel surcharge from the orders we run. This works very good for us and for the owner we also run this truck as if it is ours so we are very aware of the coast of fuel so we all have to do are part to be profitable. By the way they are looking for more teams.
we run fedexcc.

Well it makes "cents" to me they way it's put and with the FSC the numbers are looking better.
BUT.
I'm seeing more and more idle reduction setups out there and i've heard that it will help GREATLY reduce your overall fuel cost. Are owners putting them on thier trucks for thier drivers or do the drivers have to put them on thier selves? I mean if i'm footing the bill for the fuel i would like some type of system to help. If i have to foot the bill for the system, how much do they run? I can't seem to find that out.
