60/40 or 40/60 ?

I'm new to the bussiness and would like to know as a Driver would I be better off being paid 60/40 and I pay for fuel or 40/60 Owner pays for fuel

I LET MY DRIVERS DECIDE THIS. IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF DRIVER TO IDLE THE TRUCK A LOT, THEN TAKE THE 40% AND DON'T PAY THE FUEL. NOW YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT IT'S GONNA BE SLOW FOR A FEW WEEKS/MONTHS, SO YOU MIGHT BE SITTING MORE THAN USUAL. IF YOU CAN START AT 40% AND CHANGE IT LATER ON THEN I WOULD DO THAT. 4 OF MY 5 DRIVERS TOOK THE 60% AND PAY THE FUEL, AND THEY ARE MAKING BETWEEN $750-1200 WEEK. THE ONE THAT TOOK 40% IS MAKING ABOUT $725-800 WEEK. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD TAKE THE 40% AND NOT PAY FUEL, IT'S THE SAFER OF THE TWO. GOOD LUCK:+

You would need to have some kind of guestimate regarding the mileage per gal of the vehicle involved. Once you have determined what the mileage is you can simply multiply the fuel consumed by the price per gallon and subtract it from the 60% and there is your answer. Hypothetically, $1000.00 gross earnings in a vehicle would provide $600.00 to you & using $250.00 worth of fuel would then leave you with $350.00. Always remember that the amount of miles paid by the company are not the true miles traveled and it would obviously be important to speak with others driving for this company about their true mileage on a load.

Paperback was sure on the money regarding the cost of idle time. I know that in my van I can easily burn up quite a bit of fuel idling. Sorry about not including that in the prior post.

Go with the 60/40 split,get a decent sleeping bag,keep the speed down,accelerate slowly and you and the owner will be ahead..

Right now with fuel prices it's a crap shoot on what to do. But if the prices go up as is expected letting the owner bite the bullet might be the best bet.

Like that other driver said, get yourself a good sleeping bag and use the cruise control to maintain 60 mph. Your the one driving the truck, your the one making the money so why would you want ot give the owner an extra 20% and short change yourself? Paying for your own fuel makes your more responsible by not idling the engine which helps keep YOUR money in YOUR pocket.
