Greg, yours is the "Common Sense" answer. The "Lawyer" answer may be completely different

As for me, it's a "next van" issue; if they'll put a topper on a pre-owned van, that will allow me to find a nice '09 or so to do it with, instead of having to buy a brand new '12. Might save a buck or two that way :D

And leave poor Kenny alone. He's an asset to the board, and as the Moody Blues said "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" :D

Oh OK, you're right. But I wonder what his mother-in-law was thinking when she named her daughter "Jujubeans" ? :D

Just the same, I don't mind if OVM spells funny, as long as he doesn't smell funny  :D

Can you post the answer after you talk to them?

Paid Brightbill a visit today. It would seem that paratransit vans today are built like "short buses" because a DRW cutaway is a safer foundation to build such a vehicle on, rather than the old 15-passenger vans; those vans have been involved in some nasty wrecks over the years. They told me they were a distributor for "Turtle Top", who builds the UltraMaxx and TerraMaxx high-roof vans. I was specifically told they do not sell or install tops on existing vehicles, only brand-new ones.

Question is, aren't TerraMaxx & UltraMaxx vehicles a bit porky? IIRC they tend to weigh around 7700 lbs, which would be a bit much when you have to keep the gross weight below 10K. Isn't that one reason a lot of people were interested in the Armadillo HCV, like Jack Berry has? I think those come in a lot lighter; Jack's ad says his weighs 6900 or so all kitted out.

Tomorrow I think I'll try Wolfington Body in Exton, PA; they sell a lot of similar vehicles, so if they don't have what I'm interested in, at least they might set me on the right trail to finding one :)

That seems strange I could understand if the van didn't look straight and they were worried about leaks.

I don't believe for a minute that a srw Ultra/Terra maxx when setup properly for expediting weights 7700 lbs....Yea you have to work at it to get it below 7000, but I don't think it would scale at 7700 from the factory. If you look at their website, the 7700 is the same weight shown for the drw and the srw....

My CargoMax scaled at 6600 lbs after i took the pass seat out, the side step off, and cut the bulkhead opening so that i had a complete walk thru without the slidig door and the hardware...

You being new, you might not have seen the pictures of what i have done to the cargomax:

If you have ok, but this and the ultra are right along the same lines and as I said, I don't believe that you will have a 7700 scale slip with a srw ultra, and getting it below 7000 lbs shouldn't be an issue if you want to bad enough....and yes mine now probably weights back to 7-7100 lbs, but I'll haul and have hauled over 4000 lbs and will do it again....no problems... remember those chassis are rated at 12,300 with the drw's so the frame, axle, brakes and everything else will handle the weight without an issue....

And I didn't pay anywhere near $35,000 for mine (price the ultra)....At $34,000 fully upfittered and ready to go to work, Jacks van is a good deal for someone.....

I did read that thread, and sir, that is a sweet ride :D

If I had $34K I'd snap up Jack's truck in a heartbeat! :)
If I bought it now I'd get a frying pan upside the head soon as I walked through the door

A month or so ago on the opening Page where they advertise trucks. There was a company from either Tennessee or Kentucky offering a raised roof 24". I don't believe they did anything with the doors. It was around $2500.00. Two day deal.
