401 crash

Anyone who has rolled down the 401 at all knows just how crazy some of those drivers are. What amazes me is that crashes like this one don't happen more often. They get rollin' on the 401 and there is nothing stopping them.

they get on that 401 like a plane going down the runway for take off. although our neighbors to the north generally are pretty friendly. so i can't complain in that department.

I was on the 401 very regularly for 7 years and saw quite a few bad ones. Windsor to Chatam is real bad in the winter.

I sure thought I woke up in another world today. Was concerned when I saw this post. I just knew something crazy was happening with some of our investments! Then I start reading and for the life of me cannot think of where in the world the 401 is or to begin with what is is. Then I finally have another taste of my coffee and realize we are talking about a highway in Canada! We have been down the 401 several times and it is great in the summer but boy let a little ice get on it and you better watch you behind it gets wild.

Hi all hope every one safe and warm. West Michigan " blizzard" weather like that of 401 in Canada. Multi car pile up N. of Grand Rapids this a.m. Sat. Feb 3.. That 401 is bad taste in my mouth first time in Canada all I heard was watch your speed, Mounties love to nab U.S.A'ers. Drove speed limit, got more fingers and horn blowing then in Fl. Hay Pappy darn good singer. Met retired trucker Karl from Cleveland got into singing pick'en and grining after retirement did good also.:+

I drive the 401 nightly from London to Toronto. The Woodstock to Kitchener stretch is the worst, since it is still 2 lanes each way with just a narrow ditch median. They are working on widening to 3 lanes each side with a wall in between, and this should be done late 2008, so the highway from west of London right through Toronto will be a little nicer to drive on.

Unfortunately the last several years have seen an influx of non-English speaking people from warm weather countries who don't mind driving for 35 cpm (CDN) for the latest fly by night company hauling auto parts, and these people don't have much snow/ice experience.

I can't remember the last truck I saw pulled over by the Ontario Provincial Police. You pretty much have to be above 70 to even turn their head, and faster than that to make the good officer decide to get out of his warm cruiser on a chilly night.

I concur...you'll get by ar 120kph but do 121 and you're dead meat. There are usually parked between the 60 to 140 mile marker!

The sad thing here is,probably half of the 30 drivers were doing their best to drive safely. Unfortunately they have no control over the driver behind them and were probably rammed into the accident scene.

In a white out scenario the only thing to do is pull over or get off on an exit, and wait. NO FREIGHT IS WORTH IT!!!

Well give me the choice between the 401 and a freeway in LA, GA or TX and I'll take the 401 any day. They might move a tad faster but trucks staying left lane, 4 wheelers in the right, very nice roads and little traffic most of the times, its heaven to me.
