So if that's to be believed the 4 cylinder Sprinter should be a 28-29mpg vehicle if the v6 is actually a 25mpg vehicle with all the new improvements and the 4 gains 18%. So I guess some of the questions for the Sprinter experts, Ken, Ken, Eric et al, would include

With proper maintenance meant to get 600-700k or more out of it how will the 15k supposed service interval affect cpm?

For the guys whose hero is the tortoise not the hare do you think 28mpg is reasonable for the 4 cyl?

Do these changes and improvements move the Sprinter back to the top of the suspect list over the as yet uncertain Dodge and Transit?

I don't think 28 for the FULL sized 4 cyl is there....maybe for the 1/2 van....

IF they've corrected the nagging DPF problems that have been a thorn in the side since 07....

The 05's and 6's are close to the 15k now for oil changes....in fact that is my change point....

OK, so while the 4 cyl has less power and torque it also has one more gear in the transmission and a new final drive ratio it appears so possibly very similar in overall performance to the v6 while being more economical? It appears the 5 new safety systems will be available as a package for about $1800 total. It appears the base price is going to be very close to current prices with the savings from the 4 cyl offsetting the automatic annual price increases.

Talk about marketing ploys....1 article speaks that Americans will probably, with their love of power, go for the 6 cyl option......so they make the 4 cyl standard over here and the 6 is an upgrade....:rolleyes:

$1450 every six months, tax free; that's a pretty good raise. Congratulations. A couple times of that and you can pay for your v6 upgrade.

he "we invented the car" folks now selling Mercedes-Benz cars, trucks, and buses like to brag that their Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft ancestors also invented the truck in 1896. Roughly 100 years later, Mercedes introduced the original Sprinter van, which made its splashy North American debut -- all narrow and light and fuel efficient and maneuverable -- in 2001 as a Freightliner, and in 2003 as a Dodge. It got a total makeover in 2006, and this year -- just in time for its first real Eurovan competition in the form of the Ram ProMaster and Ford Transit -- it gets a freshened face, an even more efficient powertrain, plus enhancements in the safety, comfort, and convenience realms.
