What codes? If the DPR is smoking it is breached and will need to be replaced. The DPR itself is not your problem, its upstream of the DPR 70 % injector failure, 20% exhaust brake adjustment issue and 10% Burner/Mantle/Atomizer issues. Codes and any injector or exhaust brake history would help possibly narrow it down. SCR (DCU) faults will not cause a dpr to fail. It is a seperate issue.
