I don't know about you but as far as I can see unfortunately about 50 of 52 Sundays are nothing more than a waiting day so it's either sit in the truck doing the same reading, emails etc. as the other 49 or go to some seminars. I don't see any reason we can't do a moderator forum both days, especially if it is perhaps a 4-6 p.m. slot that doesn't interfere with attendees seeing the expo displays.

4-6 on a Sunday maybe a little late for some....There are Sunday night pick-ups and Monday morning pick-ups that we might have to drive to....

Sorry I wasn't clearer. I meant 4-6 on Fri and Sat for the informal moderator meetings if we were to extend the Friday hours for more seminar time. The main expo would close at 4 as usual and the seminar would run for 2 hours after that. If we were to have Sunday seminars I'd say something like 9-2 or3 or so maybe so it leaves Sunday afternoon/evening free.

One of my concerns about having the round table to long is it will just turn into a gab session that would be better held around a BBQ grill. If we plan a session on Sunday I would rather see this one as totally informal and maybe just meeting around a breakfast table.

Several have brought up very good points about drawing to many people away from the vendors for to long of a time period. Since we have such a contained venue I really like the idea of having a few show and tells such as how to secure your freight. The vans drivers also need an area to share tips on how to make life on the road easier.
I really appreciate all of you for the thoughts you have put into ideas for next years Expo. Do not stop now!

Lawrence has asked Bob and I to organize the workshops for next year so all your input will be put to good use!

It is highly unlikely that vendors would stay to exhibit on Sunday. First, the crowds would be less, making it not worth their time to be there. Second, they are anxious to get back to work on Monday and will need Sunday for travel. The Expo is tiny compared to the Louisville truck show. Even with thousands of attendees still roaming the aisles, you see vendors packing up before the show even ends to get out of Dodge and get home to start their week.

If workshops are to be offered on Sunday, don't forget about the expense. Hotel meeting rooms are not made available for free. Consider a self-sustaining day of intense training on Sunday for which admission is charged to pay for the rooms. Call it the Expedite Acadamy.

Just a thought, but not an idea I'd be in favor of. Keep in mind that EO already sponsors a popular series of workshops at various locations throughout the year.

I prefer to leave Sunday as a non-event day. After two days at the show, rest is needed and quiet time is used to process the information gathered and networking conversations had. If a full day of Sunday activities came to be, and if we chose to attend, we would stay out of service on Monday to decompress and process the information and conversations.

Others may not work the show as hard as we do so that may not be an issue. When we go to the show, we are there to work, not play. The cookout is as much a working event for me as giving a workshop is. When the show is over, I need a day of rest.

No, I don't think any vendors would stay but wouldn't attempt to get them to stay. I'd look into the option of the meeting rooms from 9-12 or maybe 9-2 at a HIGHLY discounted rate since they'll either sit empty producing no revenue for the center or be used by us. I think it's a better idea to reserve the room for a 3 hour window at the end of the day, trying valiantly to have the drawings etc. finished at 4 not starting at 4 so the moderator free for all could run 4-7 each afternoon with nothing on Sunday.

Between 4 and 7 I am likely having a cold one with most of the vendors. Because it is a transient type show (people arriving and leaving at different times), I would do the workshops right through the day like they have been. You could add as many as you wanted to and then folks can attend what they have a interest in. I would then follow that with running them on video/podcast to be viewed later via the web site or some other avenue.
That way if something is missed, it can be view or listened to later.

Another workshop or perhaps an ongoing display to consider is one of freight securement. Maybe form a parking lot circle of three trucks, backed into circle with their doors open. The people can stand in the center. The drivers can have 10 minutes each to explain their layout and demonstrate their equipment use.

This is something no trucking magazine can cover in the way it would be covered here. How many of us learned our securement tips and tricks by seeing them used or demonstrated by other drivers? I believe this would be of interest and value to newbies, old salts and vendors alike. Run the mini workshop a few times a day to provide scheduling flexibility for Expo attendees.
Love this idea. I've driven for an embarrassing number of expedite companies and all I heard about it in orientation was "secure your load", if that.
Ateam, you got it with this one. :D

OMG, went from watca tink to what's under the Kilt in a few threads. Maybe there Caffee you should just let em digest and attempt to implement what they heard a few dayys ago, an if'n they need a refresher or further education -- ask in about 6 months. Otherwise i'm affeared they'd jes be as confused as they is today.

It went from what do you think to what's under the kilt in a few threads. Maybe, Caffee, you should let them digest and attempt to implement what they heard a few days ago. If they need a refresher or further education ask in about 6 months. Otherwise I'm afraid they'd just be as confused as they are today.

Colonel, I've met you and you are an educated man. You don't become a Colonel by being an uneducated hick that speaks more poorly than any movie portrayal of Appalachians. I'm curious why you think you need to apply this "persona" to your posts here rather than being the well spoken, educated person you are in real life.

I saw no reference in the thread at all to a "watca tink". Does anyone know what it is and how it's useful in expediting?

Hey what workshops would you like to attend at the Expedite Expo in 2010?

Would you like to more workshops on the industry such as CARB or even the changes in the 2010 engines. What about the new Diesel Exhaust Fluids (DEF).

What about a workshop with a DOT officer discussing scales and logbooks?

How about a few more sessions on the business aspect of Expediting?

What about a session on Canada?

What about having a keynote speaker start off the Expedite Expo?

What about a series of mini workshops including Leo's thoughts on Fuel Tax, Dave's thoughts on getting your own loads, polishing your truck, how to cook in the truck, exercise, tricks to save fuel ....

What would you like to learn more about at a workshop?

Well folks, if'n this post isn't asking watca tink, then there will never be a post that will. And if'n you tink dat watca tink is not important in expediting, please tink again. Each of you have asked your dispatcher watca tink. If you have not asked them (anticipating they are worth a s---), then you are really behind. Taint a good day if'n you don't rely on your resources (providing they are worth a s---). Leo, thanks for the English lesson! But, do you know what taint is??

Because he's just havin' some fun like the rest of us.

Ark, I unfortunately know your definition AND the Colonels.
