<10,001 lbs . Does Your Carrier Require A Physical ?

With all the discussion on BMI I am curious if your carrier requires you to have a DOT Physical for vans.
I think a more accurate wording for this question would be: With all the discussion on BMI I am curious if your carrier requires you to have a CDL for vans? If your carrier requires a CDL, then the biennial DOT physical would be part of the requirement for retaining the CDL.

Panther did required a CDL for vans. I think they rescinded that qualification for a time and may require it now.

That's actually a separate issue. Possibly many that require the physical do not require a CDL.

Beachbum asked about CDLs earlier and I've noticed that questions like that , when asked in a post, seldom get answered.
You'd need to start a CDL Required ? Thread.

Looks like Maury should change name to Fat Guy Express and start recruiting.

Maury??? Really? I don't call you "Sorry". LOL!!

We are a carrier that organically ONLY attracts drivers that really do have their shyte together. We cannot bring on newbies that have a whole set of challenges just learning the industry and keeping their nose above the water line.
We can't implant knowledge. Only the experience we have.
We are thankful that our tiny fleet is happy, but we recognize there is ALWAYS room for improvement.

Thanks for the responses.
Surprisingly no comment from FedEx, and the only comment about Panther I couldn't decipher either way.

I would think they would both require physicals.

If so, it looks like most carriers require physicals. < 10,000 is not a place for the unhealthy to run and hide.

Things like these guidelines will make a major impact on cv'ers too.

And M-U-R-R-A-Y, keep doing what you're doing. Looks like you're doing a fine job. (IMHO) :)

I ran for both Panther and FedEx in the past and they both required physicals.

The impression I have is; carriers that require owners of veichles <10001 to have their own insurance, do not require DOT physicals. These same carriers, generally do not require workmans comp (or similar) and do not have qualcom. However, some of them are creating telephone tracking and dispatching fees.
FMCSA is creating a huge computer the size of a very large building that will eliminate the need for physicals. A driver enters a door and is strapped on a conveyer belt. From there he is directed to liposuction, mucsle development, eye transplant, sleep storage cranium container, hemroid extraction or what ever is needed. When the driver is exited out the back door they rubber stamp his forehead with 'FMCSA APPROVED". This program will be funded by tolling the Interstate Highway System.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of small carriers out there....what we have here represents MAYBE a mere 5 % of the industry......

Most of the carriers that are large enough to have a significant presence in the expedite industry do require physicals as a company policy. Not that this indemnifies them from any actions in the event of an accident, it does show that they are doing their part to put healthy drivers behind the wheel of vehicles they lease on. If not it definitely shows a lack of responsibility and can put them at even more risk. It's the same with the yearly on going safety training that is suppose to be done. That is used to show an effort by the carrier to keep all it's lease operators or drivers up to date on safety measures and safe driving. Both of these are liability driven issues.

5%?
If you're talking about.....
Small carriers represented on EO compared to the total number of small carriers in the U.S., IMO that is more like 1/2% or even less.
