Cell Phone Cited in "probable cause" in crash killing 11

Using the handheld device is really not a cause for anything, there is no proof that it causes any more distractions than using a hands free device. The texting on the other part is an easy solution for all - FCC can stop the use of it, they have the power. BUT realistically speaking, having...

    Truck Battery Question

I have never heard the fridge with a sealed compressor needed to be plugged in all the time. When I used the 120 volt models, I just wait for it to cycle off and then disconnect the thing from the power then kill the inverter. I haven't lost one from doing that.

    Legal or NOT?

I think the entire thing can be summed up by asking who pays the person. I mean if the owner pays them, that's the owner's problem. If they own the truck, then that's a different issue altogether.

Cell Phone Cited in "probable cause" in crash killing 11

Ignored in the summary is the fact that the driver didn't get the proper sleep and there were indications of continuios incoming and outgoing calls during the time he was supposed to be sleeping. I can see the political motivation involved with LaHood, he may be our next VP or something like...

    Truck Battery Question

Yep I agree, the fridge in that truck uses a 12volt compressor like many others, the lights from the factory are LED and there is no Microwave that works when the truck is off, it has to be running in order for the inverter to turn on for the load that large. I measured the total draw the other...

Backhauls what does your Carrier you for them.

I'm just having fun there Dave, not having to prove a thing to anyone because my revenue is not derived from anything here unlike you and others. I know what you do, I also know what others do and I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to take a chance and use my capital to buy straight...

    Not exactly an electronic log...

Well the problem is that there is no requirement for the unit to be integrated into the ECM of the truck in order to fulfill any DOT requirements. The catch is a unit has to be in sync with the trucks odometer and that's the only reason why most of these companies have chosen the path they did...

History too kind to Puritans brutal intolerance

Actually there Pilgrim, if one studies the time that this was written, it seems that many of the points made by the writer may be a bit more valid when you read the unabridged version of the Liberties of 1641. I think for the times, maybe it was more appropriate. And here is the one thing that...

    Truck Battery Question

Call interstate and ask them where the dealers are who handle the truck batteries. What kind of tests did they run to find the bad battery? Resistor tests don't seem to show much. The truck batteries will hold up to fridge and other small loads - especially having four of them. I got one...

    Legal or NOT?

Well I think this is a good place to vent and get advice on how to handle it, not whining at all. Reading your posts leaves one question that may solve some of your problem, it comes down to this; they claimed it was a dispatcher error and it was illegal to do because it would take away from...

    Tonight's debate: Newt Gingrich/Wolf Blitzer

Nope we are a nation of laws, not of "well seeing you've been here for 23 years, its alright" nation. When we adjust the laws for one group based on their need to be here, we need to do that for all. When we consider that some laws are not as important as others, we lose sight of what we are...

You knew it was coming. DOT bans handheld cell phones in trucks.

So it is like the sleep apnea thing, no real hard proof that this has caused carnage on the roads but they are going to make the rule and than see what happens. Reading the second link, I noticed that like the NTSB report of the truck accident, they overlooked a few things and used only some...

    Tonight's debate: Newt Gingrich/Wolf Blitzer

I do, his political past is very important because when he was speaker, it was when Clinton got a lot of things passed in congress which led us to this point. True but also people in the party knew that if McCain made it through the primary process, they would have loss to any democrat...

    Tonight's debate: Newt Gingrich/Wolf Blitzer

Romney isn't even close to being better than Obama, they are still marginal politicians and still both liberals. Many think that Romney can pull a victory off but I don't see it happening at all. Gingrich has a long way to mend fences, whether he is considered a conservative or not doesn't...

    Transportation Regulatory Trends

Thanks for posting this. I think this illustrates two other problems within this industry, one comes out in the comment; Many shippers believe that this disclosure [SMS] helps protect them from litigation if they use a carrier with marginal or unfit ratings that ends up in a crash...

    UltraMaxx cargo van

There isn't an issue of above or below 10k, and isn't an interpretation, the law is clear the removal of the OEM sticker by the upfitter is not allowed. The owner can do what ever they want, like in the case of Dennis, his van was repaired and the sticker was removed in the process but the...

    Tonight's debate: Newt Gingrich/Wolf Blitzer

Listening to the debate last night, I was struck on how Gingrich was not the man for the job. Just his immigration position nearly made me vomit. Remember this was a guy who helped us into this situation, he was the guy who didn't complete the contract with America and if I remember right the...

    UltraMaxx cargo van

Sorry but the upfitter can not legally remove the original manufacturer sticker and if they do and you know about it, it is a crime in many states. The upfitter can only apply the tag with the modified weight limits, if there is a limit through the modification of the vehicle. A number of DOT...
