    About Leaving FedEx Custom Critical

This is not news to anyone who researches the company even a little bit. Diane and I knew we would be more of a number than a name when we joined the company eight years ago. That was one of the appealing things, that everyone was treated as a number. We did not want to join a company where...

    About Leaving FedEx Custom Critical

I posted a few minutes ago in the FedEx Custom Critical forum that Diane and I have left that carrier for another (Landstar Express America). The post was the post and I thought little more about it as we prepare to enjoy a quiet weekend. But with questions already coming to us by phone and...

    Leaving FedEx Custom Critical

In posts here in the Open Forum and on my blog, and in conversations with company personnel, I have been saying that Diane and I are leaving FedEx Custom Critical. The deed is done. On Monday, we will attend orientation at our new carrier, Landstar Express America. Dreamer, this is my last...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

Diane and I started in 2003 as green drivers. We had no service failures in those early months and no freight damage. We drove as many miles and and made as much money in our first month as the grizzled veterans. We did short runs, long runs, New York City runs, inside deliveries, etc. It would...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

Your note is of GREAT value. FedEx Custom Critical is not going to go away simply because certain contractors are unhappy and/or choosing to leave the company. The FDCC recruiting department is as busy as ever reaching out to new people who will consider the opportunity. For people considering...

$1 looks to be working out....

Let's think about that a little deeper. The theory is that a corporation exists to benefit its owners, i.e. the shareholders, but something seems to have shifted in that regard. Executives at big banks are paying themselves obscene bonuses that in no way benefit the shareholders. In many other...

    An Injustice Averted

All of this is of decreasing importance to us. We sent applications in to other carriers a while ago. The FedEx lettering has been off our truck box for two weeks. The box was repainted to avoid ghosting when the new logo goes on.

    What gives?

I have talked to three different people in the company who you would think are in a position to know, and have received three different numbers. The last I heard from recruiting was 40.

    Duh, why not fix it?

Those aren't company-owned trailers sitting on the lot. Those are misconceptions! :D

    Duh, why not fix it?

Emotionally, it is less difficult dealing with the business changes than it is dealing with the fact that we are not being told what is going on and why. We can adapt when necessary but is the courtesy of being kept informed too much for a contractor to ask? The company tells contractors many...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

I commend your skepticism or caution. Saying "the perceived state, at least" indicates you are taking statements about TVAL with a grain of salt, and that is an excellent and wise approach to Open Forum reading. By reading my posts, you know what Diane and I have come to believe about TVAL...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

It matters not a bit to me that someone copied and pasted comments from a carrier forum into the general forum. Having an expectation of control over something you post in a carrier thread would be like having an expectation of privacy in a nudist colony.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

Truth be told, I put very little thought into the location of the post when I started it in the FedEx Custom Critical forum. I guess my instinct was to put it there because a post about billing for datalogger services is pretty specific to that carrier.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

There might be a bump up in the price for them in the used truck market since if anyone wants a big-sleeper straight truck, that will be the only way to buy one, since the money is no longer there to support building new. At least the money is no longer there from FedEx Custom Critical. That's...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

An even better thing about an open forum, especially a good one like this one, is that people can read the wide variety of views others share and benefit from what they deem good.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

You may very well be correct. But I am not ready to lower our price just yet. As do I. "Cherry picking" is a broad and vague term that varies greatly with the people using it. We have never considered ourselves cherry pickers because we don't sit and wait for the jack pot loads. We'll do...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

    1. The Great Recession is over. It has been for several months. The economy is in modest recovery with the trucking industry being more so. The recession stared us in the face and it blinked first. We got through it OK, still in business, still solvent. 2. I once worked at McDonald's flipping...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

The latter is the case. It is an injustice because we are billed for the equipment while our carrier gives the service away that they could not give away if we did not have the equipment in our truck. We pay the cost. They keep the profit. That is unjust.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

Thank you for making that distinction. It is very, very important and I hope readers who are critical of expensive truck owners listen very carefully to what I say next. I speak not for others but only for Diane and me. Other owners of expensive trucks may hold the opposite view, but Diane and I...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

Absolutely true. It goes the other way too. For some people money is very important. If you want to feel sorry for me because working for a low wage is beneath me, I'll exercise my option to feel sorry for you because you are willing to accept so little. Notice the shift you made after I...
