    Guns and Expediters

If you don't like getting stung by bees, hornets or muggers, perhaps a can of hornet spray, the kind the shoots about 40 feet, would be a useful carry-on.

    Guns and Expediters

The following is a portion of GREG334's response to a post in the Newbie Conference. It is an oft discussed topic that deserves emphasis and repeating. Knives, bats, guns, mace and pepper spray - anything that is not used for the work you do can be considered a weapon. Look I know something...

    Panther Mileage Rate

Bryan's 2 minute primer sums it for van owners pretty well, regardless of the carrier to which you lease.

Fatal Truck-Bus Crash in Wis. 10/17

Thanx to Panzer for the good research so we could see the facts [as reported in the press!] Couldn't agree more with Greg. Drivers of buses, and other non-automobile passenger carrying vehicles, are among the fastest group on the highways. The general public is always saddened by the deaths...

    I-Pass and EZ-Pass

This is good news. I have accounts with Fast Lane and I-Pass. Fast Lane is accepted at all EZ-Pass locations. I just E-Mailed I-Pass folks to see if they will accept Fast Lane at I Pass locations. I'll report back when I get an answer. Thanx for spreading the news. Terry

    Where's OLD PROF?

I talked to Old Prof about three weeks ago. He's alive, well, busy and happily traveling the highways in his Panther van. Terry

    GPS systems and computers

Theend: We only have experience with the Magellin 700 so I can't give a comparison. This unit has options for three different users and each user can permanently store 100 entries which include: name, street and street number, and state. You may additionally enter all of the same temporarily...

    Canada Ontario truck inspection stations?

C5BILL: On my first visit to Canada, many years ago, I stopped at an Ontario scale and asked the scalemaster if my van was required to scale there. He said "no, not unless I wanted to stop by". I've never entered a scale in Canada since nor have I been challenged to do so. Perhaps...

    designing a cargo van

Tony has a good point about GVW Registration of a vehicle at a class lower than the weight rating; that's a great idea if it is legal in your State. However, you cannot change the GVW Rating determined by the manufacturer or the remanufacturer. I've had toll collectors on NYC bridges ask my...

A Way to Log Legal vs New HOS Rules

I suspect that any of the major carriers would be more than ready to add three hours to an ETA if too many older teams find the 10 hour duty periods too fatigueing to continue in the biz. jernation deserves kudos for developing a means to git-er-done in lieu of groaning about the requirements...

    Expediter Sensitivity

A woman meets an expediter in a bar. They talk; they connect; they end up leaving together. They go back to his place. As he shows her around his apartment, she is struck by the fact that his bedroom is completely packed with sweet, cuddly teddy bears. There are literally hundreds of teddy...

    Tire Pressure Monitoring

I have a set similar to these on my van and they are great for quick reference. on my 16" tire, I use 60# on the steer and 80# on the drive. Can't remember which site sold them but they were $6.00 each

    fedex fleet

Perhaps someone can help me, for I fail to understand the value of an owner/operator knowing the fleet size of his carrier. I often hear drivers discussing carrier fleet sizes and run counts that are of great importance to the carrier but are useless to an owner. The only thing in this regard...

With the rising price of fuel....

Draco: The last time I inquired, an ESPAR heater only was $1200 installed. I've heard from one driver that he paid $1300. Either way a cheap alternative to idleing or freezing. Another alternative that is equally expensive, in the long run, is a Black Cat? catalytic heater found in the outdoor...
