I've never had a concern with buying the first model year of a vehicle. Many times they're over engineered and any problems seem to be taken care of with extra warranty or goodwill on the part of the manufacture. YMMV.

I don't dispute any of that. I was simply pointing out that the case the OP linked has an arrest attached to it. That alone quells most outrage. This other case has a 911 recording combined with the media circus, and that's what has people fired up on both sides.
