Trucking's Operational Costs Continue to Rise

Driving out of New York City today, Diane and I saw a Werner big rig company truck stranded on the right shoulder of I-95, and pulled up as close to the tall brick wall as one could get it. There was no more than an inch between the left side of the truck and the right hand traffic lane. Soon...

    Dot regulations

You see no disadvantage where other people have pointed out several, but that's OK. If you are willing to put up with something that others are not, it is not the disadvantage to you that it is to them. They don't log, you don't mind logging, disadvantage to them, not to you. They don't like...

Putting a Yacht into the water

The boat owner would likely be sick seeing his or her pride and joy dumped like that. Lots of emotions to process, I would think.

Branson, Missouri; An Entertainment Center in the Ozarks

Once again, Zorry, you are making false assumptions that lead to false conclusions. While it is true that I have all my own teeth (except wisdom teeth), it is not true that I think myself better than people who do not. In the retirement community in which Diane and I have a vacation home, many...

Branson, Missouri; An Entertainment Center in the Ozarks

Those of you who know the Branson area well are invited to talk about routes to take into town. U.S. 65 south from I-44 is hilly but easy. The route we took in under load was from the south. We picked up U.S. 65 from I-40 in Arkansas and that was a different kind of drive altogether. It is...

Branson, Missouri; An Entertainment Center in the Ozarks

At the time of our FedEx interview and for some time after that, there was going around the FedEx Custom Critical contractors the joke calling such interviews -- especially interviews for the art team that existed at the time -- the "tooth check." It was with that joke in mind that I posted what...

Branson, Missouri; An Entertainment Center in the Ozarks

Diane and I delivered a load this morning in Branson, Missouri, and found ourselves in the middle of a delightful entertainment center set in the Ozark Mountains. Branson is not directly accessible by freeway or located near a major city. While we have crisscrossed America many times in many...

Some insight for a potential new team

Husband/wife teams are highly desired by carriers and fleet owners. So too are same-household teams (man and woman living together). That is because they are seen as a single economic unit in a stable relationship. Teams where the revenue is split among team members tend to be less stable...

    Waitin' for the snow!

Exactly! Diane and I have been on the road 9 years and have only chained up two or three times and there was no need to do it then either; at least no need that was evident to us. Once over Donner, they made us chain up when the sun was shining and the road was wet. There was not a flake of...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

You may very well be concerned, but that would be your decision to proceed on a false premise; that is, making a leap from "new technology" to "important enough." I called that same number this morning and talked to Trudy. She gave me the correct answer when I asked if EOBR's are required on...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

In an 8,000+ truck carrier "recruiting" can mean many things. Who exactly did you talk to and when? What phone number did you call? Respond privately if you wish. No point in putting the wrong info out there. If you were told wrong, the teller needs to know.

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

I checked with our operations department today. They are the same people that do the recruiting for LEAM. According to them, EOBR's are not required for new LEAM trucks. Not now, not as of 08/01/12. I did not ask about the other divisions.

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

Regarding the time an EOBR supposedly saves the driver who uses one, the nature of the time saved must be considered. Diane and I are on a run now that delivers tomorrow morning. The load picked up yesterday evening. On this run, we will make a number of paper log book entries, each of which...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

The requirement is news to me regarding Landstar Express America. Can't confirm it with the other divisions either since I don't follow them. What is your source?
