    Why do Christian drivers...

You know that's not true. We are talking about speed limits here (at least I am). While some people may observe them more often than others, that has nothing to do with perfection.

    Why do Christian drivers...

No, we don't all creep up now and then. Diane and I are very religious about operating within the speed limit but it has nothing to do with our witness or Christian beliefs. We don't obey the speed limits because we fear God. We obey the speed limits because we fear higher fuel costs...

Looking for Advice on this Job Offer

So, you're talking about a company that puts $500,000 worth of radioactive medicine that corrupts quickly on an SUV, crossover, pickup truck, van or whatever; attaches a certain amount of liability to the driver of that vehicle; and pays a self-employed contractor $0.46 a mile plus a whopping $5...

Looking for Advice on this Job Offer

Have you talked to others who contract with this company? At that pay, I have to wonder if anyone can be found who has been with the company for a meaningful period of time and whose bank balance is bigger now than it was when he or she started.

    The 1940's...a keeper

National patriotism is easy to inspire when you have a powerful enemy attacking your shores and another attacking your friends. Less so today when the U.S. population is far more diversified and the enemy is an unidentifiable terrorist (until caught) attacking a single plane or a few buildings...

Where will you be at Thanksgiving?

We will do this Thanksgiving what we do every year; stay out and available to haul freight, and celebrate Thanksgiving at home with family only if the freight takes us close and provides the time. Our hope is to be under load on Thanksgiving day rolling happily cross-country on a long run...

    SlushBusters Work!

Just put ours on today. We leave them on year 'round but got a new windshield this year so the SlushBusters needed replacing too. For an accurate install on the first try, run the wipers to determine the wiper blade range. Then mark off the desired SlushBuster placement with masking tape. Lift...

Driver "Red List" Maintained by FMSCA

From TheTrucker.com: "'I can tell you that I recently found out that FMCSA does keep what they call a ‘red list’ of drivers. They consider them the worst drivers in the country and they carefully monitor what companies have hired those drivers....' "'...they’ve gathered all that data over...

    Which company is best?

While your points 1, 2, and 3 are correct, I beg to differ slightly about the time it takes to earn great pay. Diane and I entered the business in August, 2003. We had no previous truck driving experience whatsoever but instantly and consistently produced gross revenues that rivaled or...

    Think you deserve respect?

That is the proper way to get rid of a tailgater, simply slow down. The tailgater will pass. Usually, it is a four-wheeler on the phone or impared that settles in behind the truck. Slowing down to get that driver off my tail and out in front of me where I can keep an closer eye on him or her...

    Think you deserve respect?

Stupidity knows no limits. Even smart people do stupid things when good judgment and self control give way to emotions like road rage. Mentally rehearsing the evil deed makes the loss of self control more likely when a rage-inspiring situation develops. A well-balanced and professional driver...

    Think you deserve respect?

Have you noticed how the people who demand respect from others are the same ones who do not respect themselves? The louder the demand, the lower the self-esteem. The greater the self respect, the more confidence one has in his or her ability to earn and enjoy the respect of others.

    E-Book reader, anyone?

It is a Wi-Fi router into which you plug an air card. Both of our computers can then access that internet connection, as can both of our Kindles. I have not set it up yet but that's the theory. Importantly, the device is small, about the size of a smart phone. After we sold our house in 2004...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

So readers (including me) may learn more, please explain, why wouldn't you be without it? And, how exactly do you have it set up in your truck?

    E-Book reader, anyone?

This is a good tip. Thank you. We bought today a second Kindle Wi-Fi (not 3G) for Diane and I kept my Wi-Fi Kindle. A Wi-Fi router can be purchased at Best Buy for $100. The price difference between the Wi-Fi Kindle and Wi-Fi/3G model is $50. The $100 we saved on two Wi-Fi Kindles paid for the...

    West side story?

If I may, allow me to advise you against forming the belief that luck is a factor in business success. Don't see your load getting success as a matter of luck. See it as a matter of probability and position yourself accordingly. When you see where an offered load will take you, don't ask how...

    West side story?

I would agree that our TVAL-qualified reefer is a huge advantage in garnering good loads, and add at good pay. We have seen nothing in the Southwest to suggest that our reefer is in higher demand there than any other region of the country.
