    Of Interest to Van Owner-Operators

Random surfing brought me to the van web site linked below. I don't know anything about this company but thought van operators might enjoy the photos. http://moreheaddesignlab.com/_wsn/page2.html

The Costs and Benefits of Large Sleepers

Spec a new, class 8, day cab truck and note the price. Call that price "A." Add a factory sleeper to it and note the price. Call that price "B." Subtract A from B to get the cost of the factory sleeper. Call the factory sleeper cost "C." Spec a large (100 inches or more), custom-built sleeper...

Saving Money By Extending Your Oil Change Interval

How much did you pay for your last oil change? What is that number times four? That is the cost savings you can realize over 150,000 miles if you change your oil every 25,000 miles instead of 15,000. We have been doing 25,000 mile oil changes for a while now. At 200,000 miles, oil analysis...

    Onan's "Revolutionary" New Generator

Staying at an RV park while waiting for our Monday pickup, I picked up an RV magazine and read about a new Onan Hybrid Quiet Diesel (HQD) generator (they call it a power unit) that is now available for motorhomes and coaches. (Family Motor Coaching, August 2007, pp. 62-68.) The article said...

Gary and Shawna Hage's New Truck!

The Hages are proud new owners of a new truck. They asked me to post photos here. I'll leave it to the Hages to tell the story. Ten photos follow. The "office in the front room" feature is not often seen on the road. Congratulations, Gary and Shawna!

    Class Eight Hybrid Trucks Revisited

In May, 2003, two months before Diane and I drove an expediting truck for the first time, I started a thread about hybrid trucks and wondered how long it would be before heavy-duty hybrid trucks would hit the market. "Not in our lifetime" was the collective answer of the voices of experience...

    Check Out This Truck

Spotted this truck at TA in Ontario today when we went there for showers and then left to set up for tomorrow's pick up. The truck was buttoned up so I was unable to talk to the driver(s). The graphics and chrome on this SST-100 are the nicest I've seen on one of those "Jeff Jones specials."

Photos of Big Sleeper Expediter Trucks

Truck photos are always fun to look at. This is an invitation to those who have them to post photos of big-sleeper expediting trucks they have seen. It can be your own truck or others, straight truck or tractor. There are a bunch of big-sleeper trucks out there. Let's see and hear more about...

    Does Anybody Know This Truck?

On our way to Toronto in the middle of the night last week, we spotted this truck at a Fifth Wheel truck stop. If the drivers were inside, they were asleep so we did not bother them. It would have been fun to visit about the truck. Does anyone know who built this truck and how it is working out...

    Cabover Expediter

From time to time, people talk about building cabover expediter trucks. Custom built cabovers have been done. This is a photo of a custom-built cabover truck Glen Rice built in 1985. It is a 1985 Kenworth K100E. He bought the cab new for $81,000. The sleeper conversion cost $19,900. It is a...

Of Interest To Truck Camera Shoppers

A recent Land Line article talks about how Kansas troopers are riding in trucks and using a camera system to nail four-wheelers that commit violations around trucks. http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2007/Apr07/041607.htm/041607-02.htm The system used is designed and installed by...

    Centramatics

Bummer today, sort of. With 108,000 miles on our truck, we replaced our first set of steer tires. While the treads had 8/32" remaining, cupping had begun. Knowing the tires had only more cupping to look forward to, and being serious about keeping our truck in tip-top condition, we replaced old...

    Changing Oil Change Practices

I am giving serious thought to extending my oil change intervals to 25,000 miles from 15,000 (Volvo, VE-12 engine, straight truck). What leads me to do so is the improved oil (API CJ-4) that is now coming to market in response to the new 2007 engines that are also coming to market. See oil...

    Straight Truck B-unit?

I spotted this truck at a delivery yesterday. The owner uses it to travel from show to show selling his barbeque sauce. The storage area behind the cab is for product storage. It is wide enough for two skids and can be loaded with a fork lift. It opens full wide from both sides. He has E-Track...

Reefer Bad News. Dealer Good News

Since purchasing our reefer last June, we've had two issues that combined have cost us several days of down time and several hundred miles of deadhead to resolve. One issue was a simple manufacturer's defect reparied under warranty. The other kept us from going in for T-Val testing since we knew...

    You Think Expediers Have Problems?

You think expediters have problems? Here's a quote from the Fall, 2006 edition of RV Journal. In response to an article in the Summer, 2006 edition about the poor quality of RVs, a reader writes in saying, "Here in Santa Maria, a local RV sales and repair shop suggests not buying any RV made in...
