The Cost of Doing Business Being Self Employed

Did I read welcome to a nuther day in paradise somewhere here or what? Yep, trucking is fun, some days. But, all is valid that is typed in this thread, for those of you that want to get your feet wet.

    What's Up With This???

Leo: Support the entire open forum concept, not, just the parts you like. And, Daves right. it's not a dispatch issue. He didn't insult anyone.

    What's Up With This???

Wow! I get to read em all here. Some folks complaining about short loads. Some complaining about long mileage loads. And, most wonder why dispatchers are like bears with sore a$$es. I might have a clue. I'm interested in reading what others figgure.

    Ticket for in cab control

This is an offense in any state, some use it as a source of revenue more than others. If the convienience of having the controls in the truck outweighs any penalty you may get, it's a mute issue. If whom is going to pay the fine, in case of one, then move the control, and it's still a mute...

    another new driver

"With a paid for equipment he won't have to bust his tail" Not a healthy attitude to begin any business with, in my view. But, if he chooses to be a part timer, so be it. His Carrier will soon figgure that out. Having to be a full-time parent half the time would certainly present some unique...

Questions concerning my entry into this biz

Thats correct rush, service and initiative. Service without complete and perpetual "whats in it for me". The whats in it for me will come, and plenty of it, if, you decide right away you are going to provide a service, and provide it well. Nothing magical to it.

48 inch sleeper 22 foot box how much can I make?

RE: 48 inch sleeper 22 foot box how much can I mak I read on this site somewhere that you can make a million dollars expediting. So, all you have to do is divide a million by however many months you are going to run. Guess it's up to you.

6 weeks in and deeply disillusioned

If you think you are disallusioned now, wait 10 or 15 years. It'll get better. Once you have your trucks paid off, and you have some experience. Ain't no instant gratification here. Sorry. Six weeks? Get real.

    Would this work?

Good post Broom. The one thing I will add is, don't wait until you are broke to make a change. When you don't have fuel money, your cell is about to be disconnected, or, are staying a couple steps ahead of the repo man it is double jeopardy. That places an immediate strain on your new...

Questions concerning my entry into this biz

How bout that. In the box rules don't apply. Archives? Don't think there will be any info about this. I'm really surprised FASTROD is typing about what he's doing. He says he can't compete with some companys prices, that should say it all about someone with alittle initiative. Maybe what you...

    One mad cat

But, but, the real way to not get you feelings hurt, is to respond to a good load offer when it is made, not, when you get a round touit. Ya create mosta your own heartburn by being not where the messages are. There really is no excuse for having these kinds of experiences, particularly when...

    Rules for Dispatchers

Actually, it's kind of amazing to me what some people hear (or think they hear) during an orientation. Some, from the first phone call after an orientation, I feel I must have spoke Arabic to them during the orientation. Many are like gooses, and wake up in a different world each day. Are you...

D Unit Box Damaged by Forklift

My experience with Alumabunk is, you can go purchase an excellent used box with liftgate for what it will cost to repair yours. Been there with a Contractor. If you go to Alumabunk and get an estimate I anticipate your repairs will be in the 8-10 thousand range. That is enough to purchase a...
