The transmission control board and connector plug can be done when the transmission fluid is due (it needs Shell ATF 134, same as dealer Sprinter/Crossfire fluid and less than half price) in most cases you can turn off the engine and restart to reset, leaving it for the shop to fix at a later...
Currently the only rule left at my Canadian carrier; if you're out of uniform and seen, instant termination, and they hold your pay 90 days. This, and I pay my plates and insurance
(And fuel, and tolls, and maintenance, and van payment)
But some companies tell you where and when to go while calling you an o/o, not every carrier is "enlightened"

That's your answer. I have a friend who just sold his at 1.5 million km for $3500. Never touched the engine or transmission. Skip the rebuild, that engine was rated for 800,000 km by Mercedes

My suggestion would be state rest areas - not only have I never been bothered, chatting with the staff will usually get the next shift informed to not bother you too
In Canada theres some tiny city truck stops, you're stuck with the bobtails or areas between the spaces where the big trucks...
