    Good Nationwide Pager

Who needs a pager? AT&T One Rate has better coverage than any paging service we've used. We were using CUE, but we dropped them after going six months without using the pager once.

Things to do in off time

Don't be afraid of taxi's. We did the French Quarter in New Orleans last week. It was a blast. Park at the Mardi Gras Truckstop ($5 and they have security) and call a cab.

    Make a living w/ a "B" unit?

Bob and Gerri, I spoke with a "B" team at a FedEx contractor workshop back in April. They were clean, intelligent and articulate (unlike myself)unfortunatly I don't remember much about the conversation. They seemed happy with their situation and mentioned that they stayed in motels a lot.

    Looking For Information

Socrates, call Paul! 912-271-8267 Nice guy, hell of a character, and great trucks. We used to drive class 8 also, then went to work for him before buying a truck of our own. He is also in your neck of the woods.

    Just getting started.

If you want to learn about it first, you might think about commiting to and driving for an owner for 6 months to a year before you buy. It'll give you time to learn the ropes, see how much money you can make and ample opportunity to learn about all the various truck options.

    Kenworth or Freightshaker

Big Al... my two cents. I have driven Freightliner Centurys, a Classic, an FLD 120 and an FL70. I own a 2001 Kenworth T300. I swore I wouldn't buy a truck with out a standup cab... until I atually drove the Kenworth, then I changed my mind. The quality of this truck is far and above the...

    Satellite Radio

I am interested in a satellite radio also... actually I'm hoping that they will combine one with an MP3 player. That way one could load all his CD's on the laptop and pick and choose songs to load on a card for the in-dash deck.

    cb radios

The Cobra 29 is an excellent radio. I bought one recently that has 7 weather channels and a night face (it lights up real well at night). The weather channels are handy, especially with the weather alert. If there is some sort of weather emergency an alarm sounds even if the CB is turned off...

    Teams needed for D units

Two teams needed, one team now and another in June for trucks on with FedEx CC. My girlfriend and I are drivers for the owners. We are leaving to become owners ourselves. These are great folks to work for! They take pride in their trucks and they take excellent care of their drivers. The...

    I-95 Warning!

LBT, Thanks for the warning. I guess I need to start getting up when my 100lb red haired co-driver stops at rest areas in the middle of the night.

    Delorme and Earthmate GPS

Lawrence, The package cost about $160 at Best Buy with tax. The GPS operates on batteries, to get a power adapter to run off the laptop or 12volt, you have to order from their website. The GPS is about the size of a radar detector, you just toss it up on the dash. I haven't the slightest idea...

    Delorme and Earthmate GPS

Hey, I just bought Delorme Street Atlas and the Earthmate GPS package the other day. What a find! You can zoom in as you are approaching the shipper or receiver and see exactly where you are in relation to things. Very Cool. It even labels a lot of the businesses on your route. I realize this...

D-Units; Need your input for upcoming article

Hi Marty, Our last ten loads averaged 1,250 pounds in a D unit. The heaviest was 10,932 - the lightest was 150. We haven't been at it long enough (6 mos.) to really tell If loads are getting heavier or lighter. We run a lot of C loads - seems like the C units are a little sparse. Matt

    Teams Needed for D units

Iris, We are former big truck drivers too. You are right, even with the slow times, this beats the heck out of driving a big truck. The pay is good, but I feel uncomfortable discussing it since I'm not the owner. Page Paul at 888-674-6694, you'll enjoy talking to him and I know he'll be...

Senior Citizens; How long before re-testing them?

Gosh, testing seniors is a touchy issue, but one that needs to be dealt with. We've got a 60 year old family member that has been a major road hazard for the last 15 years or so(she just recently quit driving). On the other hand, we've got a 78 year old friend in Arizona - his only car is a...

    tag axel/auxilliary generator

Generators Our truck has a Rigmaster generator. The only really good thing we can say about it is that it seems to be a lot more quiet than other models. We've parked next to a couple of Pony Pac equipped trucks only to move when they fire up because they are so loud; they are worse than...

    Laptops

Slaptop CJ, We have been using a Compaq Presario 1675 for about a year now. All in all it works pretty good. The thing I like most about this computer is that it has a very large screen for a laptop. The 380 mhz I have is a little too slow, especially when using the DVD player. Definitely...

    Sprint PCS

Want AT&T but not in their service area? Don't worry about it, find a friend or relative that is, use their address but give your home address as a mailing address. Thats what we did and it works fine. Started out with an LA #, changed to a Texas # and address, but the bill always goes to...
