Help in starting up van business

I am thinking of purchasing a van (b unit)and was wondering what kind of revenue I can expect.I have a D unit now that I drive, but the van would have a driver in it. My son got laid off from his steel mill job and is having a hard time finding a job that pays a livable wage, so I was thinking...

    Allstate Express

I was with them in Jan of this year, left in Feb. 1 month and got 2 loads. Granted it was the slow time of year, but I expected a little more than that. The owners were really nice people and tried hard but just could not generate enough freight. The loads I did haul paid well though. They are...

    Vehicle Length

Thanks for the kind words Mike. I have seen the D unit you mentioned when I was with LEA. I think they got in on a gravy run hauling computers or some such electronics where their box size is just right. Yea, those Reliable guys have some pretty spiffy trucks. I also saw a car carrier called...

    Vehicle Length

Thanks for all the reply's. If I did do it, it would most definitly have at least three axles and would be built on a class 8 chassis with engine and drive train to match. I have seen some LARGE sleepers on an expediter truck, but most of them had 12-16 foot boxes. That's all right if you only...

    Vehicle Length

Didn't say I was gonna continue DRIVING, just want to build the truck, maybe enter it in some of the big truck shows. You don't see a lot of expediter trucks in the bigger, fanicier shows. I might lease it to a carrier, stay in service all the time and turn down every load offer, see if that...

    Vehicle Length

When I hit the lotto, I am going to build the biggest expeditor truck allowed by law. Does anyone know what the maximum length for a straight truck is? I was thinking of a 120" sleeper with a 22' box. Is this going to be doable? Wanna go broke? Buy a truck:)

    Headlights

I'm looking for a BRIGHT headlight to use on my truck. The standard halogen don't cut it for me. What are you using. I have a Freightliner bussiness class truck (FL106) that uses the two headlight system. I have heard of the Piaa <sp> lights but from what I have seen they only make them for the...

    the pitch

My favorite is you get a call and get offered a load at a rate that you consider less than adequate and turn it down. Five minutes later they call back with the line "We really need you to take this, you are the only truck in the area, we'll get you a load out after you drop" Yea right...

    Your average week

The company I am with runs about 90% automotive. It's really been up and down lately. This week's gross was $1,623,last week was $3,797, week before that was $1,346 and week before that was $787. I run single and was home at least 1 weekend day every week. Plus it's getting to be THAT time of...

    accident with uninsured motorist

According to my insurance man, you can get your truck fixed and your medical bills paid off of your policy, but as far as monetery recovery for pain and suffering, you will have to file a civil suit in court against the other party and if you win,you can get a judgement against her. If she has...

    Worst run?

How about while you are unloading, not from a dock but from ground level, you tell lift truck operator to be carefull not to hit rear of truck with forklift. He says, "I know what I'm doing, I'm a professional". He then proceeds to hit rear of truck and break off both lower brackets that hold the...

Anyone out there using a D unit for somthing other than expedited freight? I have a D unit with a 21,000 cargo capicity and lift gate and was looking to put it to work for a non expedited company. Maybe the work would be a bit more steady. To look at my LIL' Big truck go here...

    Landstar

I was with Landstar for 6 months this year and I was very slow. Yes you can haul their sister company LTL freight but as a rule It does not pay squat. I did have a few that paid decent, but were in the 15,000 to 20,000 pound weight range. ( I have a tandem axle truck)
