    Conway

It seems to us, as team drivers of a D truck, that we will all lose money on this deal except on the rare occasion when we run a DCX, Maytag or GE type low fsc load. Officials at Con-way insist this plan is in response to drivers refusing to haul freight for these customers, and they must cover...

    buying your own Qualcomm

sure sounds good, buying your own QC, but the units our company has put in my two trucks have both required new domes every few months. Seems that the spinning gizmo inside is prone to seizing up. Being a leased unit, they are replaced at no charge to me. If I owned it the cost would be huge...

    Class 8 semi stretch

We are going through the process of stretching a semi tractor. We found a guy in this forum who operates out of southern Ohio that talked a good line. We drove the semi tractor and chase car 400 miles to him and left it and a $4000 deposit there with him promising we would have the complete job...

    Border THIS!! =)

We have crossed the U.S./CANADA border enough time to say we do not want to do it again unless we are "just passing through". The Port Huron American customs guys were like the Gestapo to us because we had a form wrong. Threatened us with impounding our owner's truck, fining us, etc. They xrayed...

    Specing a truck

A Volvo 780 with a 24 ft box may exceed 40 ft overall length. Be careful about that, remembering clearance between box and sleeper is necessary for QC dome.

    Con Way Now

We have run for CWN since last October as drivers for a fleet owner and they have been very good to us. As newbies we had a lot to learn and they were patient with us through the learning process. Every company has its unique characteristics and you must learn which set fits you best. We...

    GPS Question

We ran using Qualcom "directions" until insanity set in! Went online to check out navigation systems and decided on Magellan 700. Searched for best price, printed out that info and took it to Best Buy. It took a manager to negotiate but we got it for just over $900 and we bought the warranty...

    Big Truck Grille Guard

Dealer out west told me they start about $2800. I was having a light on the box repaired and met a fleet owner there for a repair quote. One of his drivers had struck (and killed) a full grown HORSE at night on a highway. His longnose was pretty damaged on the drivers side front and down the...

    Sales Tax On Trucks?

RE: Sales Tax in Oklahoma Just drove through OK 2/15/05. Truck dealers are running billboards that include the line: "remember, no sales tax in Oklahoma". Wish I had had the time to stop in and talk but we were under load. Truck Paper has current ads in their regional editions for that area. I...

Information on getting a used Expediter with sleep

RE: Information on getting number for "Toes" we are currently shopping for the "ideal" class 8 tractor to stretch into a full time expediter for married couple. Live in Oakland County area of Michigan. How do I reach Toes?

right you are! we just got back from US truck driving school in Detroit. Nice folks there, Roberto in particular, gave me a "custom" package instead of the full boat school. One day and I am done. All morning four hours in the truck driving lessons, afternoon the real test. $500 for everything...

    Is This 1998 FL70 worth 20K?

I faced a similar question about a 2000 FL70 with over 400K on the CAT 3126. Dealer wanted 33,900 and the truck seemed okay. Hired a D.O.T. certified mechanic to check it out first. He found issues that were serious enough that we declined the truck. Was $150 well spent, since we saved much...

    Insurance

RE: Insurance with TIA I am a newbie, and spoke on the phone with these guys. They will not insure me without two years OTR experience, unless I settle for being insured only within a 300 mile radius of home.

    Drivers Lic.

My wife is still studying for her test. I passed test, air and hazmat. Still need to do drive test, puzzled about how to get truck to do test with. Rental agencies all have hydraulic brakes. Will you be Co. drivers or O/O? We wanted to do O/O, but thought we might try being hired driver for a...

    Trying to decide

We have looked at many and are planning to go with Con-Way Now located in Ann Arbor, about an hour from our home. Modern, technically up to date, they seem to pay as good or better than most. We visited them last week and were warmly received and given good info, not bs.
