Well, we wouldn't want to be Patriotic at the Lincoln Memorial...

A group of high school students attending a conservative leadership conference in Washington, D.C. said they were ordered by a security guard to stop singing the national anthem during a June 25 visit to the Lincoln Memorial.

“They told them to stop singing,” said Evan Gassman, a spokesman for the Young America’s Foundation. “I was taken aback. You wouldn’t expect a display of national patriotism to be censored."

U.S. Park Police confirmed that the students were in violation of federal law and their impromptu performance constituted a demonstration in an area that must remain “completely content neutral.”

What ever happened to "common sense"? Those kids should have just been left alone. What about the First Amendment? I would bet you dollars to doughnuts that if a bunch from the "New Black Panther Party" was out there singing "hate"oogga boogga NOTHING would have been said. Just a guess.

Yeah yeah, I have heard it all before. The so-called Federal officer screwed up. Pure and simple. Common sense would have come into play if that glorified rent a cop had realized that those kids were just proud to be Americans and wanted to show it. BAD KIDS!!! BAD BAD KIDS!! They would have got into far LESS trouble if they were selling meth there. THEN maybe they could have been elected to federal office!!

It's the common sense aspect that bothered me.. yeah, they could have moved... but c'mon, it wasn't a demonstration.. just a bunch of kids moved to start singing our national anthem.. and instead of nicely explaining that this was a 'quiet zone'... the guard just yells at them to shut up? I'd have sang louder too and dared them to arrest me.

The kids did continue to sing...and the it technically became a crime.... BUT that said I can see your point....the idea was to keep that area reverent...solemn...

And controlled by the "thought police" The cop was wacked out. I would have sung louder too. It would be a cold day in Miami that ANY cop would stop me from singing our National Anthem there or any where else I wanted to. That cop would just have to kiss my grits.

See, here's the thing (as Monk would say LOL)... according to the report, the guard did not TELL them to move... just told them they couldn't do it.
