My favorite part is where he thinks being overweight in a 10,000 truck will only be, at most, a $1000 ticket. Having a truck that's listed 10,000 GVWR and being overweight is not simply being overweight, especially if it's one that has been de-rated from an over-10,000 pound vehicle to a less-than 10,001 pound vehicle, it's what the DOT likes to call "willfully and intentionally evading regulations," and it comes with a litany of charges and a small fortune in fines.

Highlights would be, from the US Code of Federal Regulation: Willfully evading HoS with no logbook ($11,000 per violation per day), no DVIR ($650), operating a CMV with no DOT number (not less than $25,000 per violation per day), running with no operating authority (not less than $25,000 per violation per day), no DOT Medical Card (up to $2,500 per violation per day). The list goes on and on.

They don't just give you an overweight ticket in such cases, they throw the book at you. And all it takes for that to happen is for you to be overweight and have someone rear-end you. And if any of the above involves an accident of any kind, or even a traffic violation like speeding, then criminal federal charges and penalties, most of which involve jail time, get piled on, as well.

Stupid? Possibly. Ignorant? You betcha.
Operating overweight after being informed of the above? Just butt-stoopid priceless.

I'm in a heavy-2500 CV, GVWR is 8600, and believe me when it gets close to that heavy you know it.

I'm not sure our recent trolls have a clue, but--- if I tried to drive 30 hours + without sleep, bad things would probably happen. I'm not willing to risk it. I don't weigh enough to attract DOT attention so keeping logs isn't a worry, BUT-- I possess a human body, same as everyone else-- and after a while, my body gets tired. Log or no log, I have to pull over and get some sleep. It's that simple, and I can tell you straight it's well before I've driven 2500 miles (two, maybe three sleep breaks AT LEAST in that distance, and probably more).

Johnnypenske is pulling our legs on this--- or he has a special windshield fitted to his truck to allow for his extra-long nose, one of the two. Viktor--- No, no, no, no.......
