XM SATELLITE RADIO EXPANDS BASIC SERVICE AND ANNOUNCES PRICE CHANGES EFFECTIVE APRIL 2; XM OFFERS EXISTING SUBSCRIBERS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO LOCK IN CURRENT RATE FOR UP TO FIVE YEARS

Washington D.C., February 28, 2005 -- XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio with more than 3.2 million subscribers, today announced that it is expanding its basic service package, and that the monthly subscription price for XM's basic service will increase to $12.95 beginning April 2, 2005. XM is also offering existing customers the unique opportunity to lock in the current $9.99 monthly rate with a one-year prepaid plan and deeper discounts with a two, three, four, or five-year prepaid plan until April 2.
The price change will not affect XM's Family Plan, which allows XM subscribers to add up to four additional subscriptions for $6.99 a month per radio. Beginning April 2, XM's expanded basic service will include the Internet service XM Radio Online, which offers more than 70 channels of XM music and talk programming (previously $3.99 per month), and the High Voltage channel.

That figures. They lose nascar to serius and they raise the rates. I am *still* waiting for the no comercial music channels. Sure, theres no comercials for other companines, but the family plan spots, black history month spots and other misc spots they run are still in my opinion comercials. And who thought DJ's where a good idea? I might as well listen to FM. If it where not for a few talk shows I would have dumped XM a while ago. They are giving me more reason to do it.

Looks like we've got them right where they want us. Satelite Radio has become part of our lives as we have the car, home and boom box radios. With GM/XM practicly giving away the add-on with new vehicles, we've been drawn into the radio-web. What's next?

They hafta keep up with Sirius, who's price is $12.95. That's gonna piss alot of drivers off about NASCAR when they'll hafta switch companies to hear cars going around a track.
I have no probs with Sirius except that the 80's channel is more like the "Prince and Madonna" channel. And they keep having commercials about renewing hair, skin zinc, and Diego Sandrin, who keeps having "these songs came from actual dreams I've had." Doesn't matter, Diego... they still sound like crap. LMAO :7

I have heard the only difference between XM and Sirius was Nascar vs. NFL...sounds like Serius has both now and no price difference now....sounds like Serius may be the way to go....any comments on this thot out there????

I have both because I like the old time radio and if one doesn't have a program I like I can switch to the other one. I'm not a big sports fan so I don't care too much about that aspect. The bulk of my listening is old time radio, discovery, and talk shows.

One MAJOR issue I have with Sirius is their preempting classic radio and discovery for sports. If they want to tie up the channel then put it on the 13 weather channels they have. One doesn't need weather 24/7 so they shouldn't take off the good stuff when they have semi useless channels to put sports on.

Well here we go again, another good idea heading the direction of high prices and less service.

NASCAR is the largest fan draw of any sports concern in the country and second largest broadcast audience- and they lost the bid to Serious? Which brain-trust is in charge on this decision?

Shows how much XM appreciates it's customer base that put them in business. Personally I spend the money at XM to listen to the trucker channel and nascar, wish they had NFL. Music I can find anywhere.

I'll say thanks for the memories Nemo and Bill and hello Serious Radio, oh, and I'm also cancelling my wife's and my son's subscription before the 2007 Nascar season and writing a stern message to XM.

Very disapointing. Should have figured that the largest one out there will eventually be the one to disapoint us. Dumb me, just bought all new equipment.

Why do I keep thinking about cable TV and the year 1982 when I read the posts on this subject????

I played with a serius radio at a truck stop last night. I like the music line up better. Do they also play comericals on the music channels? Have DJ's that like to talk? If I am going to shell out money for comercial free. I want comercial free. Talking DJ's are free on fm.

I already dropped my second roadie. They kept telling me "the family plan price stays the same". I finely told her if she did not shut up I would cancel them both, and that with the price hike I will make do with one radio.

Had I not just bought the sky-fi 2 I would have dumped them completely. I like the radio but who thought white would be a good color for the display? I have to keep it down on the floor at night so the brightness does not bother me. (I have the brightness turned down).

I have stock in both companies as they are here to stay, however I think Sirrus will wind up merging with someone such as Direct TV etc as they have commited a ton of money to Howard Stern, the NFL (16 games) and now Nascar.
XM has baseball (162 games) plus some other shock jocks plus good traffic info.

I remember when people said"are you crazy, paying to watch tv". I know a woman whose husband works for Clear Channel Radio,3 years ago he said "satelite radio was nothing to worry about". These days he freely admits they are running scared and why not,who wants to listen to screaming commercials every 10 minutes about buying a Yugo this weekend. I have 2 XM'S,one in the truck and one at home and probably use the radio more then the television.

Wait....I see our future.......ebay...lots of, what are they...XM RADIOS. With no reserve price! Or could they be very small boat anchors? Does anyone else see it? over there!

I bought a Sirius radio set-up last year, and I won't hit the "rode2rouen" without it! No more fumbling with CDs while trying to navigate the Pennsy Turnpike....no more searching for ANY radio station out West in the wide open spaces....it's too cool!!

As to the DJs, I don't mind hearing them as they are, as a rule, very familiar with the music they are playing and I like the background info they have about the songs.

NFL coverage allows you to tune in to the regular radio broadcast of either team, which is pretty cool. You can hear two really different outlooks on a game, especially if it's a blowout!

Howard Stern in '06...NASCAR in '07...can MLB be too far behind?
