Link doesn't work. Could be due to no space between link and smiley.

Texas used to have a good plate but they changed it to the current bland, lifeless thing.

Yes, that one was better than the 1940's remake we have now.

Expect to see more bland, black-on-white plates as years go by; they're easiest to read by automatic license plate readers. The American ***'n of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) are calling for nationwide standards which include machine readability and front plates, for those of us (like me) without them. Also spurring this on is a push for ticketless tolling, which will allow toll roads to be operated without manned tollbooths.

Ever notice that European plates are almost completely uniform? They use plate readers extensively over there; if you're not careful you can rack up a ton of speeding tickets and never see flashing blues in your mirror. The police call you and tell you to come down to the station & pick 'em up :(

It may not be as easy to do as some may think. States are making a LOT of money on "vanity" plates with different "themes". It would be hard for them to give up the revenue. There are a lot of "charities" that have "deals" with the states that use vanity plates to raise money. Everyone wins on those plates. States went to rear plates only because it cut the cost of plates in half.

We plan on buying the new Michigan Ducks Unlimited Plate in July when we renew our plate on the pick up truck. It is another "win win" plate, both the State and Duck Unlimited making money on it.
