Would A Real Socialist Privatize NASA?

This past week President Obama spoke at Cape Canveral about the future of NASA and a manned mission to Mars in his lifetime. Obama said that it made more sense to privatize low Earth-orbit missions. Buying the services of space travel from private aerospace corporations to the International space station for astronauts seemed wiser, in his estimation, than spending billions to construct another space vehicle. What?? Buy the services of space travel? Say it isn't so! That smacks dangerously of capitalism! For the love of God, several companies might enter the game and force each other to compete. What kind of nonsense is that? We need to call our congress people and demand the government holds on to this valuable asset. After all, every dollar spent on the space program in the past 40 years has translated into 8 dollars put into the american economy. We can't have that kind of commerce falling into the hands of the private sector.

Obama will not truly allow industry to exploit space. It will be a sham on his part. The controls would be silly. No profit to be made. If it was private we would already have a moon casino, a Mars colony and with NO public money spent and jobs everywhere!! Yea, putting it into the hands of those who know what they are doing is far worse than allow the congress to control it. After all, they are all aerospace people.

Layout,
I think that this will not become a private enterprise as much as a cash cow for FOO.

The fact that there are already private enterprises out there who are already investing in space travel may indicate that a shift of nasa to private entity may have to do with the idea that nasa can be used to mitigate global warming and legitimize some of the pseudo-science used to justify the cost of preventing the globe's climate from changing.

I would love to see it get into private hands and get the government out of it. I used to work with several people who worked on different parts of our space program. They worked on Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the shuttle system. To a man, they all said the same thing. The government held back the advancement of space exploration. They all more or less agreed that there was far too much "pork" done at NASA and not enough pure science, research and engineering. One guy I knew who was an Apollo/Saturn 5 engineer stated that if left alone by the congress and presidents we could have been on the moon in half the time at 1/3 the cost.

This is starting to sound like his health care program. Make/keep it private, on the surface, but regulate it so heavily that no profit can be made and it won't work, then conclude that capitalism doesn't work and nationalize it.

Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?
