This past week President Obama spoke at Cape Canveral about the future of NASA and a manned mission to Mars in his lifetime. Obama said that it made more sense to privatize low Earth-orbit missions. Buying the services of space travel from private aerospace corporations to the International space station for astronauts seemed wiser, in his estimation, than spending billions to construct another space vehicle. What?? Buy the services of space travel? Say it isn't so! That smacks dangerously of capitalism! For the love of God, several companies might enter the game and force each other to compete. What kind of nonsense is that? We need to call our congress people and demand the government holds on to this valuable asset. After all, every dollar spent on the space program in the past 40 years has translated into 8 dollars put into the american economy. We can't have that kind of commerce falling into the hands of the private sector.
