Worst Restaurant Experience

My mom used to put a little sugar in hers (not a cup) said my great, great grandmother used to do that. Her cornbread was good as was my grandmother's (no sugar). One of my favorite meals is hoe cakes. You folks know what hoe cakes are? Real southern food. You mix the cornbread batter then fry it up in a little bacon grease in a black iron skillet on the stove top - like a pancake. Fry up some bacon and make sammiches out of it with your hoecakes. Mustard and onions are good for toppings. They're called hoe cakes because slaves used to make them on a hoe over an open fire. Except for Cracker Barrel I've probably never eaten corn bread in a restaurant and wouldn't expect it to be worth eating in any resturaunt. Cracker barrels is dry and ok for what it is. Yankees don't know what biscuits are and hand you a jar of sugar if you ask for sweet tea. Left coast loonies making corn bread? Hahaha!

My Mother grew up on the bayou.
She taught me that it's ok to put french dressing on cottage cheese.
It gets looks from waitresses when I order it.

Go figure: Up North they make sweet corn bread but unsweetened tea for the most part; however, down South it's almost the opposite, sweet tea and unsweet cornbread.

Found a big staple from a shipping box in my omelet at the Shasta Inn in Calif. Part of a wire scrub sponge in my Pizza at Sals Pizzaria in Navarre Florida. Problem a good thing I always Pray over my food before eating.

I'd drive a long way for some GOOD corn bread, Cracker Barrel corn bread will do in a pinch. Love to eat in a small restaurant down south, good corn bread also biscuits and gravy.

In my "executive" life I once had dinner with a guy who put ketchup on EVERYTHING. Never seen him order ice cream, but I`m sure ketchup would go on it too.

Not to turn this into a recipe thread, but you reminded me of Christmas dinner. I got some horseradish onto my plate, then used that fork to get some corn. Talk about GOOD!!! Corn with horseradish... whoda thunk?
