EO University Workshop Workshop A Success

Once again, the Knoxville Expedite Workshop had at least one success story. A middle aged professional man with a desire to change his direction in life has been lurking on the Forum while considering expediting as a possibility. He came to the EO Workshop to listen to the speakers, and talk to the recruiters about getting a D truck and driving as a solo operator while his wife took care of the last child at home.

Prior to the start of the seminar portion of the workshop, the man cornered Davekc and me and asked us a series of questions about the viability of his thoughts of solo operation in a D truck. We answered his questions and referred him to the recruiters. Shortly before the first speaker, the man cam up to Dave and me, thanked us for the information and bid us farewell. He said that after talking to Dave, me and the recruiters, he had decided that expediting, the way he was considering, wasn't suited to his financial, or lifestyle requirements. The man's parting comments indicated that the workshop had been a success for him because he learned all that he needed for his decision.

Lawrence, Micki and their crew did a great job of organizing and producing another successful workshop where they brought together a room full of aspiring expediters where the speakers shared a bit of knowledge and experience. A room full of carrier recruiters, truck vendors and suppliers then had an opportunity to introduce the attendees to their products and services. Hopefully, the attendees will remember the workshop sponsors as they make the decisions necessary for a successful career in expediting.

I have to agree as it was a great success. As Terry posts, these workshops are a fantastic way to really ask the hard questions as to whether it is right for someone. The gentleman Terry mentions is a perfect example.
It is a great education of expediting before someone makes a huge financial commitment and or lifestyle change.
Nothing is better for the industry than to have folks that want to be in it. As so many know, going in with those "rose colored glasses" can be ugly.
As mentioned, Lawrence and everyone involved did a wonderful job setting the whole event up.
It was great to meet many new people and catch up alittle with many of our old friends.

I am one of the people on the other side of that coin. I was at the Knoxville workshop and came in almost "looking" for a reason not to get in to this. The multiple speakers answered almost all of my questions as if they saw the list I had written down. Almost in order too!

I am going the Class B route to start. With the ambitions of moving up later. I have been reading these boards daily to absorbe as much info as I can until I get the van and commitment from a carrier.

Send me all the advise you have.... good and bad!
