words too short

doing an advanced search entitled.....gas vs diesel or gas engines vs diesel engines and i get a message stating that the word gas is too short for the minimum word allowable. minimum letters is 4. please fix.
i know we have a gas vs diesel thread somewhere here. maybe even 2.

"gas vs diesel"

using the quotes. It will only find that exact phrase, but at least it turns it into a word that's longer than three letters.

why is there a minimum number of letters needed in a word to do a search?

Any idea how many one, two and three letters words there are, and how many times one, two and three letters words appear in all of the posts that are stored on the server?

There are 15 three-letter words alone in the above 34-word sentence. If you do a search for "gas", a three-letter word, the server has to go through and read all instances of every three letter-word in order to look for "gas". That's a lot of work. By setting the limit to 4 words, it dramatically decreases the load on the server.
