I just purchased a 2000 Ford F250 &.3 Diesle Super Duty with long bed. Does anyone know if this would work for expediting business...e,g, hauling with a trailer? Thanks

Hello, the best of luck to you in your endeavors. As far as a pickup truck for expedited use, the only company that I know of that will take one is CTX out of Michigan.I have worked for some local expediting companies out of Cleveland, Ohio, that also use them as well. The guys there used to make wood sides about 4 ft high and the same with the front, connect it all together, and leave the back open, then have a tarp co such as the one in Bradner, Ohio, make a tarp large enough to cover the sides, top and back, and bungee cord it to the sides and back. It works real well, and freight does not get wet with this setup, surprisingly.

I've also seen them with a tall Contractors Cap with swing barn doors on them, haven't seen one on with CTX for a long time.

Yes, those contractors caps are a really nice setup as well. To tell you the truth, I cant remember the last time I have seen a CTX truck or van.

You'd be looking more at LTL and hotshot than expedite . The problem with pulling a trailer with a 3/4 truck is the weight of the trailer alone reduces load capacity staying within your gvwr rating . You possibilities are limited although I do know a car hauler that started out with a 3/4 ton Dodge and a 2 car trailer and managed to turn a profit . You should have your own authority and try to find a couple of base customers with light freight .

I would think there ought to be a place doing such in the US. There is one in Hillsburgh, Ont that has pickups towing flatbed trailers around (5 units) and his guys before the recession were doing alright. Small company doing basically hotshots but quite often they were doing backhauls as well so the guys were not doing as much dh as a normal hotshot outfit.
I'd say checkout the hotshot web sites as well and see what's out there.

There is an outfit advertising here, A+? out of Dayton that's looking for 24' flat beds among other vehicles.
