Does anyone have any experiance good or bad with the wifi service offered at the numerous truckstops? I am considering purchasing Truckstop.net service, and would use mostly at the Loves Travel centers and Pilot.

How about getting an air-card for your laptop? All the big phone services offer units. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc. this way you don't have to leave your truck. Just a thought, thinking about driver comfort, and safety!

I'm so connected to the internet that I have connections through Truckstop.net, Flying J and TA. I rarely find a place I can't get online. I do all my banking online. I talk to my daughter and a girl friend in Texas all the time. My truck owner and I correspond on the internet.

When I first went on the road, I connected through my Sprint phone and my laptop. Then, I purchased a WiFi card that I connect through my USB port. Because it has a cable, I can position it better to get a good signal.

Thus far, Flying J has the best connections. TA is catching up, but sometimes their "associates" have no idea what I'm talking about. Also, Flying J connections at other than FJ truckstops rarely work for me.

Truckstop.net is the most expensive. But, I have a doc on my laptop listing all locations that I keep updating. So even though I might pay more, I have Petros, most Pilots, Love's and other podunk locations that have connections.

After every delivery, I head to a truckstop I can get connected at. I would be lost without my WiFi.

I am writing this while "hooked-up" to WI-FI at the TA truck stop in Hampshire, IL. I bought a Motorola wireless network card at Wal-Mart for about forty bucks. There are a number of wireless networks in the various truckstops. I have found the best deal is a daily membership for 5 or 6 bucks for 24 hours.

I don't know if I would agree about buying 24 hours at a time. I'm on everyday. Sometimes for a few minutes, or, like today, all day.

TA has a good deal where you can get 2 months for the price of 1. With Flying J, I have it automatically taken from my account every month for $19.95 a month. TruckStop is the most expensive. I'm starting to have second thoughts about it. But, when I'm in NowhereVille and there is only a Pilot within 100 miles, the $29.95 seems worth it.

Also, I can connect through my Sprint cell phone with a USB cable and software I got at Radio Shack. I rarely do that, but can. It's just slow.

Just my opinion.

i just don't know how verizon can justify charging $960.00 a year, that's too steep for me. we'll stick with flying j for now, till something better comes along.DD.

I am using a war driving program
( My laptop is set up to continously scan for wi-fi networks )
Most hotels / suites have free high-speed internet now days
I just log-on from the Wendy's or whatever
is close by and go on-line for free
I also have many regular customers where I can also
go on-line., nice to check e-mail while loading/unloading.
I mark good spots on my Delorme map
program also gives a color graph of wi-fi signal so I can
find a good hot spot., good signal is everything

works for me..,

And to that list Coffee Shops - like Starbucks, Panera bread offer free Wi-Fi.

In the next 5 years we will see that all Interstate locations will have Wi-Fi. It's the next wireless revolution!
