cool.. the best wireless internet i have found is sprints vison service. 10 dollars a month with the right plan a 5 dollar cable from e-bay and you have internet anywhere there is cell service. your co-driver can surf while your driving 65 mph :) it has eliminated the need to stop at truck stops or hotels to get on line. heck i've even ran my webcam with it.

Sheesh...that's a remarkeable deal!
A few months ago when I was checking into the identical thing the cheapest I could find was about $40 per month, and it also used minutes from your plan. I figured as much surfing I would be doing while living on the road...it would use up my monthly rate plan minutes in a very short time. Sounds like you have found a sweet deal.

Thanks Terry,
Good link. Love those hotspots especially the free ones lol. Most motels you can snuggle close enough to to get on their network. Otherwise I use Verizon and have a cable to hook my laptop to my phone. My $39.95 a month calling plan has free nights and weekends so I just limit my surfing till those hours and it doesn't cost me anything.

While on the topic of Wi-Fi. How do you folks that have tried it like the performance of the systems at the Flying Hook?

I carry my 'expendible' laptop on the road when running long distance and it would be convenient for me to catch up on my email and such while out. The prices on wireless at FJ seem to be reasonable too. Opinions?

The "Hook" is one of the best out there.Just be sure to park in line of sight to the antenna. If your wireless card has a connection for a remote antenna it will greatly increase your range.

The hook it's self is the best place to buy a network card if you need one. They are high power (100 or 200 mili-watts) and come with the external antenna. I think I paid 100 bucks for mine with 4 months of service. Sadly most hooks I tried to stay at with my class D where packed during that 4 months. But that card could hook up half a block down the road at the "other" truck stop :)
