To lock you on to that load so another dispatcher doesn't see that you are available should a different load come up concurrently. This makes sense. The question you should be asking is why does dispatch leave you locked on that load minutes, hours even days after you refuse it.
Don't be too hasty, sometimes this can be used to your advantage.they dont leave us tied up.. they have 5 mins and then I am calling to get it off
You have to be put on a pro/load so it can be send to you. It's like that at FedEx, Tryhours, Tri-state, TST-Expedite. They can't send it out to your truck unless your on the pro/ load.
Sure it does, and if I may quote myself and hope I don't go blind:Doesn't make sense to put you on a load that you haven't accepted yet.

Panther only sends a load to one truck at a time.Huh ? I don't think Fedex puts 5 people on a load when they send it to 5 at a time .
still does not make sense...dispatch can put you into the RED...as it shows on their screens it puts you on "reserve" for a preset time whilst bid is ongoing....hence you may lose other opps while on this reserve because others won't bid...it is kind of all or nothing...Sure it does, and if I may quote myself and hope I don't go blind:
This situation sounds similiar to the infamous ETA Lock the Fed has placed on my DR unit from time to time. Although very pleased with the dispatch system Custom Critical utilizes, that little "wart", as Leo likes to call problems, rubs me the wrong way.
I certainly saw the logic behind such a lock and thus tolerated it until I called after one particularly long lock on a surface load and found out the load had been covered hours earlier and the dispatcher responsible for that load (and the resultant lock) had gone home almost as long ago. By this time he or she was probably home with the remote and a cold one - not knowing, and caring less, that I was out there grinding my teeth while I sensed other Opportunities were passing me by, especially in a busy Express Center.
Although I'm ALWAYS polite with dispatchers, I now raise a stink when I'm knowingly confronted with an ETA lock for a Surface Load. I say "knowingly" because there is no notification you're locked; and unless a driver is proactive about checking there is no way to know.
Contractor Coordinators have been fairly helpful in having them removed, so I suppose it's a minor inconvenience - especially since I have subjected myself to the dispatch policies of Panther, Tri-State and Express-1...all in the distant past.
Can't really see any way around it...the "reserve"....they don't want to double or triple book a truck. Another dispatcher might be 2 rooms away.
Did I ever tell y'all how much I liked Landstar?
This issue makes no sense to me at all .... if I accept a load, place me on a Pro ..... otherwise, don't stop me from getting other offers.
