I have heard many RUMORS*over the years. Most seem to elude to many death and bomb threats. Supposedly FECC gets them many times a week. There is also a URBAN LEGENDthat an old man who lived in the neiborhood used to visit with the dispatchers at night and was ambushed and nearly beaten to death when he was mistaken as a dispatcher one night by a disgruntled driver.

As for the guy who invented DVA I hear he is kept in a safe, undisclosed location. :+

* The comments above are rumors I have heard over the years and should no way be taken as fact. They are pure heresay and speculation. I have no first hand knowledge of the subject above.

I am in no way trying to advocate violence to anyone and do not condone the practices described above
Just covering my butt...lol

I remember getting a laugh out of the FECC security when I went there for orientation. Having been there, I think Wild Bill's thoughts were right on the money.
When I ran at Thompson, they did not let drivers enter the dispatch room as most of the dispatchers were jerks and I'm sure were beat up a lot. You could exchange paperwork, etc. through a slot at the bottom of a plate glass window, if the idiots were in a good enough mood to actually acknowledge your existence there. Boy I miss going to Oshawa 6 times a week!
I just don't think FECC wants drivers going up to "Missy" the 19 year old giggling underpaid pseudo-dispatcher and yelling at her and making her cry after she tried to point out to the driver all the errors in his ways over the phone while he was trying to find some foresaking place in NYC in the middle of the night.

Actually only part of my post was in jest. The part about the security and bomb threats was serious. I have heard rumors about such things.

Remember a few years ago when the FECC E unit driver got mad at the company up in New York state? He was so angry he was going to Akron and was doing speeds up to 100 mph. He even blew through a NYS toll plaza doing triple digits! NY state police pursued and the driver finally ended up wrecking the truck. Can you imagine what he would have done if he would have made it to Akron? (By the way I know for a fact that one is true, and it made Fox's "Americas scariest police chases)

The part about the fella who invented DVA was a joke though. Actually I heard he was made part of the Witless protection program. He was given a new identity, a sex change and was moved to a small village in Honduras. Where he is now the proud mother of several small children......Now you know the rest of the story....Good Day :+

the thing is there security is in and of itself an admission that they knowingingly screw over there drivers.. I know of other companies with the the same setup seems to me it would be so much better to just treat the drivers fairly and "gasp" allow them to earn a decent living..

If my few remaining memorey cells are functioning correctly about 8-9 years ago on a Saturday a dispatcher double dispatched a load in the Akron area, meaning he sent 2 trucks to cover it.When the 2nd truck arrived and the run was gone, the dispatcher blew the guy away with some inane excuse and the driver went bonkers, came charging into the building and actually slugged the guy at his cubicle. After that incident locks were installed,75 year old security guards were posted etc.I went into Akron last June and was allowed in but had a escort everywhere.

it's been that way sents feb of 92, one of reason is that a
a driver said to a disptatcher that i'm not to far away and be there in 2 hours and we can talk about this and walk in and punch out the
dispather that was giving him a hard time / and also e unit is a true story to you can get a copy of that from cop's
so it's been almost tens years that i know that they have been this way, it's nothing new

and story's of planning and dispatcher being threaten are facts

also like a picture that was taken in 95 sometime in dayton oh at the
old dayton truck stop at ex 36 and driver made a sign up will drive
for food, they didn't like that

lol Yeah i remember that "Will work for food" sign controversary. Sometimes they don't have a sense of humor..lol (Except sending out TPS load offers }> :+ )

I have never actually seen the photo but would love to have a copy of it. Sometimes I have wondered it if it was just an urban legend.

Hey Wild Bill, what's a TPS load? They didn't have 'em when we were there back in '91-'93. They did have a fair amount of security, though. Same story at TS as far as security, there were a couple of dispatchers who had managed to make a few enemies over the years.

Now the Mom & Pop company we're with now is a whole 'nother story. Drivers have the run of the whole building which is not usually locked and most are on a first name basis with the owners.

TPS stands for Third Party Services. It is a freight brokerage company. Mostly auto loads. When a load comes up TPS takes a cut, and then FedEx takes a cut and by the time it gets to the driver it is .80 cents a mile. (Plus it seems like there is always more B.S. on a tps load)

My biggest gripe is we are strong armed into taking it for 80 cents. When I was with Landstar LEA would throw in a little money so it would be over $1.00 a mile. My owner hauls TPS loads for another company and he makes over $1.40 cpm for the same load I haul for 80 cents. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I think someone here is being screwed! x(

It has been Rumored for years that FECC actually owns TPS. If that is really the case They are double dipping while I am getting the crumbs in the bottom of the bag. (Plus I am the one who gets to deal with the ever charming members of the United Auto Workers.) and then deadhead 100 miles to my next authorized layover.
