Who has their own authority?

I would like to speak to people who operate on their own authority. I am an inTRAstate carrier who is in the process of obtaining interstate authority. Specifically, those who have experience at loading C and D units on their own. (This is not about filing and requirements, but rather about becoming a partner carrier for companies.)

Please feel free to respond here, OR to private message me.

Thanks!

o/o till i die

just call each carrier and ask if they have a brokerage division and what you need to do to get set up

at panther the name is dan but I forget his last name after you exchange info they will start emailing you load offers.

I load d-units every day off Internet truckstop,DAT,getloaded mostly cheap stuff that pays. .65-1.00 per mile
but like today for instance I got an ltl from landstar paid $600 on 730 miles it took up about 8' of my box then I loaded 8' 56 miles from that one on the same interstate for another $530 and he is sitting there overnight in the morning I will find him another load that pick up on his same route for another 3-600 depending on how close he gets to his delivery point wich is burr ridge and elgin,IL so far. he started in chicago on monday deliverd tuesday around 11:00am made 2 picks and shut down he will be empty in chicago area thursday by 2:00 pm and ready for another expedite load out friday morning.I got $1.85 per mile out on 680 short miles $1258.00 that includes fuel surcharge and by putting together 3 ltl on the way back and most likely I will gross over $1,500 from the ltl on the way back
or$2.05 per mile however you want to look at it.yes it is a little more work than just expediting but you never sit for 24 hours and you dont need a team to make it the only time I would put a team in a truck is the day someone can prove to me that I will make twice the money and that aint gonna happen.so I say yes you can make it with just d-units and your own authority I am sure there are those that do much better than I as far as $ made but to me its easier than being leased to someone cause I know I will gross 3k a week all year long not just when its the season.good luck to you as far as the florida freight I dint go down there even though I have a house there in marion county unless I can make over $2.00 and already have something out thats paying at least $1.00 so I can keep my average up over 1.50
now landstar is good about ltl going down that will leave meenough space to put something else with it but getting out if I dont have something pre-planed is a nightmare I have waited 3 days just to get that $1 to many brokers like CH robinson move freight out of there for .85 and thats full truckload. now NYK logistics on the other hand will give you better.if you livein florida and need freight out I would get a refer or flat then you may get some better rates.
and landstar has given me decent rates on round trips from the south florida to north florida and back again like 1,600 for the round but that was a tractor and dont know how often that happens

Thanks for the responses. Even though I don't go interstate yet, I've still had 13 offers for interstate loads since May 1st, mostly out of Orlando. One out of Tampa, and one from Miami. Shortest was about 389 miles, while the longest was 978 loaded miles. That, is in addition to all of expedite runs I do across Florida, could keep me very busy. I am however, interested in how I may keep moving once I get my initial run out.
