I'm married and have two children thinking it might be possible to put the whole family on the road.

The thought was instead of chasing home time, take the important part on home with me. Is anyone making this square peg fit in the expediting round hole??? If so HOW??

Most carriers would not allow anybody under 18 yrs old due to DOT ins. regulations for a commercial vehicle. Somebody with more knowledge about can correct my mistakes.

now just saying...someone like me, in my situation...I pay the insurance......DOT has no bearing in this as we are not regulated with them....as long as the person finding me loads is ok with it...fine....now that said....would I drag my child and wife out here on a long term basis...absolutely not....one major issue....Home schooling= big issue

Plus I don't think the shipper and receivers would not like kids running all over their property. Can you say ins. claim.

Answers for several posts. We already homeschool, that part is mobile. We are not going to be driving for another carrier under their infrastructure. My kids would not be running around in parking lots at pick up and drop off points. There will be other places for me to let them out. My wife currently runs and drives with the kids doing deliveries on a smaller more local scale. We were trying to get input from people who have done this on a longer and larger scale. I see trucks at truck stops all the time that the whole family is piling out. It could be they are doing a one time thing or it could be what they do all the time. This is the reason for the post.

Everything seems doable until you do it. What happens for instance when you drop the family off for a pick up or delivery and are detained for hours? There's a lot more of these scenarios.
Now if you combine the idea of a motorhome pulling a box trailer.. (do a search)

Those with full families probably aren't listing them under their truck ins policy because it would be very expensive for one and a major problem if one got in an accident. Ins is expensive enough for one person let alone at least 3 more people.

hope its a straight with a 12' bunk at least....
And a shower and a potty for the kids plus a play space. Also a truck stop is not a place for kids to play. Not safe and too many chances for pediphiles to lure kids. Ragman here's your chance to insert said van.

Not something I would personally do....but if you find a way to make it work for ya.....remember children like structure/roots...friendships with their own ages.....the social needs of the children must come first...IMO.....Good luck to you and family...

I've been doing this a lot of years and I haven't seen that once. I have heard of it, though. It's a very rare thing to have an entire family out in a truck. It's even more rare to find it in expediting, simply because of the nature of emergency freight and the more limiting requirements of expediting insurance.

We are not going to be driving for another carrier under their infrastructure.
Interesting.

JHC, I have seen families on the road delivering Drivable motor homes. Also seen families in 1 or 2 ton pick ups delivering camping trails. Try, Star Fleet I believe thats there name.
