A couple of years ago, I posted this same question, and it turned out to be pretty interesting and informative. I now see alot of new names on the forum since then, so it´s time to ask the question again. The question is, what did you do before you got into trucking, and why did you choose trucking as a profession? Some of the old posters have answered this, but it was awhile ago, so I hope they will re-post. I am always amazed at the calibre and diversity of the people I meet on the road.

Thanks Tony! I was wondering if that link was still around, and how to get to it. I urge all who post on this thread to go to that link first, and see the familiar names, and some that dissapeared, and read thier stories in Part 1. I had forgotten about that great picture of Wild Bill. It´s still funny.

Nice question. Well for me, after High School, I went to college and got a degree in Business, but I was just killing time till I turned 21, so I could get my cdl. I always wanted to drive a truck, my dad drove for over 35yrs, and 3 million miles, (no tickets/accidents) and I just thought that it was the best way to see the country. I did that for 13yrs, then started my own business, and now I have 7 trucks. 2 in expiditing, and the others are in house trucks in the chicago area. I love this industry!!!!:7 :7

I always wanted to travel, and always loved driving so every job i had was a driving job mostily around the chicagoland area.I also am a drummer in a rock band and in the late 80s one of the upsides of driving was i could keep my long hair which was the style back then and a must for anyone in a band.I did work a side job in a warehouse i hated it,had a baby on the way [my daughter]and needed some extra cash,i found out i hate being inside, and lack attention to detail,i am more a see the end result and skip or deligate the details not a match for filling orders in a warehouse that go to a hospital,so i will keep driving and rockin.I am in a band that only plays two weekends per month and can wear my hair anyway i want so its a good fit all around, great post i look forward to reading more replys.

I got into trucking in 1977 after getting out of the military. There wasn't much else going on in the way of employment at the time, so I took a job changing oil, greasing & repairing tires for a small fleet. Then I got started driving north ends into Alberta, Canada as a relief driver for the same small fleet & loved doing it.

After that, I stayed with truck driving & went all over the western US & Alberta then to the oilfields of Wyoming, Utah & Colorado. lol!

Why isn’t this thread flying off the board. This is an excellent way for one another to get to learn how we came to be expediters. There are 1180 active members and only 21 have replied, counting the threads in part 1. Don’t be shy!!! REPLY!!!

I have the traveling bug and probably always will have it. Got out of High School in 73 did some college and was hired into the oil fields as a trainee truck pusher for the Mid-East. ( a truck pusher is the person incharge of moving the drilling rigs and assorted items from location to locaton maybe 5 miles or maybe across continents) Spent a total of 20 years overseas in the oil business worked in 17 different countries but mostly in South East Asia. I based myself in the Philippines ( wife is Filipina ) as it was a nice place to live and had good flight connections.

My kids had never lived in the US so when they got old enough to go to Jr High, ( Middle School) I requested a transfer back to the US. Had a pick of 3 locations and chose Indiana (Yes there is oil and gas in Indiana) due to the good school reputation. I'm originally from Wyoming and didn't think I could survive a Wyoming winter after being gone for so long. I worked this location for two years but was not happy staying in one place, but wife and kids really like it. So I bought truck and 5 years later still loving every minute of it
