Where's the Money???

Orientations for Express-1 and Panther were similar in one big aspect... both said they had record breaking years last year, and expect the same this year. Years ago both had to lower rates in order to keep competative. Now that they're both making buku bucks again, where's our cut?

This is more toward P2 than E-1 since the latter has been "gracious" enough to give back .05 of their cut from a few years back. What's up with P2 though? They used to boast $1.35/mi and had to cut it .15 for the sake of survival. Now that things are going great for them, it's time to pay what is fair.

After all the truck expences are taken care of, my cut is hardly enough to make a living off of. Fuel easily takes 25-30% with surcharge hardly making a dent. I've been getting more than my share of .06 to .10 surcharges and I've been turning those down as I'm hurting enough as it is.

I don't think I'm being unfair by saying P2 needs to bump their rates by .10 to .15. Afterall, the owners who've been there a number of years are making 1.35, they're doing the same job we are.

T Hawk, I yell your handle everytime I pass a P2 Freight shaker and have never got an answer so I assume I have never run past ya.

How about talking to P2 about your concerns? Have you done that or just posted them here? I dont know that it will help unless many folks stand up with you.

Well good luck and shout if you see me. My truck is just White just a few little things on the door. P2 cross docks all the time at the place I run for. It is here in Blue Ash Ohio.

Hey Race...

I want to get a general concensus before rocking the boat at P2. As I've said in another post in which I supported them, I think they're a great income maker if you can get past the dispatchers LOL. But isn't it reasonable to ask our "business partners" for a raise? They gripe about acceptability and availability percentages making them lose runs. I for one would've accepted more had the surcharge been higher. But if the rate were higher, I would have less of a problem with a low surcharge load. Everyone is talking about congress pushing that bill to make the businesses pull their weight... how bout the expediting companies pulling theirs?

BTW, Race... how've things been going?

Tough issue, but it is supply and demand that drives it.
This applies whether it is FedEx, Panther or any other company.

It has been awhile since I went through orientation, but I thought they did a good job. Most of what I have learned in life has been after school. Anyone starting out should talk to people who have been doing this for some time.

P2 has always paid me in a timely manner. On the few occations where I didn't get paid on time, it was because they were missing paperwork. A quick FAX to settlements fixed that quickly.

I get paid .80 per mile plus fuel surcharge. That is what I contracted for. Some people I know get paid more, and some less. It depends when you signed the contract.

I am happy with P2. When I become unhappy, I guess I will look for something else.

Raceman to Thawk. Come in Thawk. Hey I moved on as you may know. I think all the companies need to look at pay, fuel surcharge and a few other things. I moved to a small compnay here in town and am back to loving my work.I always load somewhere in Cincinnati or maybe at Delta in KY. then run all over but they sit things up so I am coming back to Cincinnati. I get about 4 nights home and am actually doing better than I did in what I always called OTR expediting.

All my work comes in as expedited freight so I still hurry to drop original load then back haul is typically just that and no big hurry. I never really sit anywhere other than my 10 hour break. Tow weekends ago I ran to KC and back and I actually got a hotel for my 10 hour break. It was wonderful. Although I think I gained 10 pounds on that break.

On the weekends if I am not on a long run I do local bulk mail. Today I loaded at the printer at 8:00 and ran to six Post Offices and done by 1:00. On Sunday I start at 5:30 at the Batavia Tranny plant and run to one of their suppliers until 11:30 then home.

I really am having fun. Although my driver brought my other truck back completely trashed and it has been being cleaned for the last two weeks. I have no idea what I will do with that one. It was leased and they of course wont let me out. I am done with drivers so I guess it will just sit. Thank God mine is paid for or I would be in tears right now.

I will keep yelling at you on the CB. I think I passed BroomPilot last night coming out of Columbus on 75 but he did not answer. Oh well
